E55 then E63, now back to an E55
Production Numbers - E55 vs. E63, Black vs. Obsidian Black

When I was searching for my E55, it seemed there were quite a few Obsidian (Metallic 197) Black ones for sale, and I know personally multiple people around me that have an Obsidian Black E55. Now, almost every single E63 I have seen in person and listed for sale (I often browse) is Jet Black (040.) A salesman from CA told me today that the production of Obsidian E55's was MUCH MUCH higher than the E63, most of them are made in the Jet Black. He stated in his Southern California dealership he had maybe seen four (Obsidian) E63 in 2.5 years.

This brought me to ask - were the production numbers truly lower of E63s in 197 ? Are they slowly doing away w it because of lack of popularity (most I know like it) ??
Is this going to make it more of a rare paint code? I.E. only making my search difficult, not adding to car's value?

Yes, Obsidian Black is much more rare on the E63 than it is on the E55 because the Obsidian Black color was actually available only on the 2007 E63s. All of the 2008 and 2009 E63 models had a different color available called "Sienna Black" but not Obsidian Black. Sienna Black is similar to Obsidian but seems to have smaller flakes and those flakes appear to be "slightly" more yellowish in color compared to more silverish in Obsidian Black. My car is Obsidian Black, but most of the E63 I've seen were indeed flat black.
