need new tires

my rear tires are bald @ 17k. I am going to get a fresh set all around, but need some ideas on what to get. I see alot of people here say get the PS2s. How are they in the snow. I dont drive the benz in the snow but I have gotten caught in it a few times. How about the cold?

on my previous vehicle, i was running the new nitto invo tires on a 22" rim, and i must say they performed quite well, especially in the rain... i know by searching that some people have strong opinions for the ps2's, but i had great luck with the invo... they're priced fairly good too...

I just recently purchased Toyo T1R's and I'm very happy with them. This past weekend I drove down to LA on X-mas day and ran into some heavy rain, the T1R's handled great! These tires were recommended to me by a few members here on MBW and I'm extremely happy with my purchase...on track, in the rain, and daily drivability. Not to mention they were a lot cheaper then the PS2's. I purchased my Toyo's locally for $950 mounted and balanced.

ps2 and that class are summer performance tires. they suck in snow. you will end up in a ditch during snow conditions if you're not careful.

PS2 and other summer performance tires are dangerous in the snow. If you're caught out in the snow just find a safe place to park.

For summer driving, I like Sumitomo HTR Z III for the value. They're about half the price of PS2s, but Tire Rack ranks the Sumitomos very highly:

I realize the PS2s are rated max summer performance, but what are the stock Contis rated? It cant get worse than that unless Im riding on drag slicks...

btw Im not looking for a "snow" tire. Just for a tire that wont suck as bad as the Contis in the snow if I manage to get caught in a snow storm

stock conti sports are in the same class as the ps2's. with snow on the road, both of those tires feel like drag radials in the rain but worse. you wont go anywhere and the esp light will stay on. you'll get further by walking in that case. just get a winter setup that you can swap per season.
