Holy $h!t! That will make a difference for sure, man that explains a lot. I wonder if the ones Jim raced had this size in front as well. I think I would still take it over a BS. Handling can always be modified. Jim, what mods did the ones you raced against have?

Good point, the DTM's front wheels were 19x8.5 compared to the Clk BS of 19x9. However the DTM's rear wheels were 10x20's with more rubber to the BS 19x9.5. The DTM's were still under shod as the torque of the 5.4 was 800nm at 3600 rpm which over-whelmed the ability to put the power down.
Further the BS chassis was fully seam welded and triangulated and had the state of the art KW shocks. The BS was just an improved varient and mostly overlooked as to the engineering that went into this vehicle. The BS is just that good.

Points well taken but give me a CLK-DTM, a set of custom Moton shocks, some real rubber, and I will see you later.

The CLK BS is a fantastic car but the DTM is and absolutely amazing machine and on a different level of big boy toy and collectibility.

Now if I had to make the decision between an SL65 BS and a CLK DTM, it would start to get very difficult as that is more of an apples to apples comparison to me.

BTW, A major factor is the driver on how comfortable they are with difficult cars. No pro driver likes a car that understeers, most excel with neutral or near neutral cars, and a very select few can take an oversteering monster and turn laps that defy logic.

Wow, I'm surprised that they didn't engineer the hell out of the DTM as much as the BS. I guess you always learn from past experiences what to do next time. The old 5 speed auto didn't help I'm sure, especially compared to the new 7 speed.

The CLK DTM is the real Mercedes supercar - all the performance of the SLR without the nasty looks of the McMerc.

Just for clarification all the DTM's I saw and raced had 255/35x19 front rubber and were Dunlop R coumpound which makes sense with a 8.5" wheel.
I'll try and post some pictures of the DTM's this week. One of the mod'd ones had over 600hp and an insane wing with chromemoly cage as I noticed external shock resevoirs.

Initial tests say the SL BS shows its weight and doesn't handle as well as hoped. I'd take the DTM ahead of the BS edition cars, as I'm sure many would, were money no object.

Are you sure? Why wouldn't they be? There's more than a few over here, there's vids on youtube of them on the street, and 2 or 3 of them are for sale.

Really? I didn't know that! Does that mean it cannot be registered or it must be registered as a show car?

I thought it was street legal because of the airbag, but I guess the racing harness is not DOT approved...

The eBay listing states the cost to import included DOT fees. That suggests the car is legal for the US market. Obviously, any purchaser would insist on the paperwork issued by the DOT and EPA regarding the federalization to confirm its status.

If you've ever imported a grey market car from Europe, you'd know that it's brought over the big pond, delivered with a EPA bond to a registered commericial importer who makes the necessary modifications to the vehicle to meet the DOT requirements, modifies the car as necessary to pass an EPA emissions certification (for bond release), and then submits all of the completed paperwork to the NHTSA, which clears the car for release.
Once a car is legally federalized, it can be titled in any state and legally driven on the streets.

Since this car was based on a standard production model offered in the USA, it's entirely possible the car was legally federalized.

Actually, it is most likely on a "Show and Display" Permit that limits the use of the vehicle to 2500 miles per year. This would also explain the low miles.

We can all thank Bill Gates for his love of the Porsche 959 and the Show and Display permits.

Well, without it we wouldn't have any at all. But I still think its BS, I think we should be able to import whatever the hell car we want. Every exotic over here has low miles, Enzos rarely have more than a couple thou, they're legal. I know what you're saying though.

ok here is what i have heard from a few Germans from AMG

They say the clk DTM is faster then the SLR, and caused a few issues so they were forced to under rate it just like the E/CLS marketing example 469hp vs 500, which could maen it actuly makes more power then claimed...

The guys that made the CLK DTM are the AMG gear heads. It is a pure race car

I will try and find a list of things i saw different in this car compared to the normal 55k and the SLR

From a power stand point this thing will rape ...it has no bypas flap & much bigger cooling core

like i said will try and find details later on

cls 55 or FIAT Coupe T20v-6speed
hi, ... anything found yet ?

from the search I made time ago I came up only with
- charge pressure to 0.85 bar (12.3 psi) ..should be something like from a 165-170 pulley

- additional radiators integrated into the
front apron

-ECU management

- no twin TOP I/C ... maybe it has the DTM I/C without bypass that is only slightly bigger ..

- maybe same cam and exh valve as slr ...still waiting for confirmation

.. couldn't understand what they meant with "fan-type exhaust
pipes and the new sports exhaust system"

further recently I was confirmed from whom had it at hand that nothing else different, same rods and no ported heads ..

my thinking is that the only BIG difference with ours are FORGED PISTONS, maybe lighter .. and them are responsible for the capability of this car to rev till 7000 redline

read this: Höchstdrehzahl 1/min 7000

Verdichtungsverhältnis 10,5 :1.. this should be the compr. ratio and is a bit strange:

.. should I find confirmation for pistons importance, I'll be soon after them

I am not sure it was the same driver...but these were done by the same magazine. You have to remember that the Nürburgring times are somewhat subjective based on at which point the clock starts and stops as the entire track is rarely open to finish the entire lap.
