It seems like some things on MBs get worse as time goes on

I remember my friends w208 CLK, when you checked to see how many more miles you had before you needed to fill up on gas, it displayed both the distance and how many gallons you had left. My W211 E class only tells me how many miles left in the tank. And finally my rental C class (brand new) also says how many miles left, but once it gets under about 15 miles left, it just turns into a little picture of a C class next to a gas tank. Thats f***ing useful!!!!!!

Anyone know why this is?

I guess they don't want you pushing it, running outta gas and then calling the 800 # for a can of gas... or getting pissed off when it says 3 miles left and you're on empty...

+1

If it said, say, 1 mile left, would you want to bet you could get to the gas station a mile away realizing it's an estimate based on instantaneous consumption ? I wouldn't

I had a 99 ML430 that did the same thing, only worse, and it used to drive me nuts. It would tell you miles to empty until about 50-60 miles, then it just gave the low fuel indicator. I always thought that was engineered completely bassackwards.

Danny - your W211 can be programmed to do the same. Contact Steve at mbenznl@gmail.com. I believe he is coming to SoCal next month. Not sure what happens when you get so close to empty though as I never let mine get that low.

W211--you must really want to get everything out your tank of gas ...on a serious note, I guess MB doesnt want to leave people stranded and are giving themselves a 15 mile cushion by stopping the per mile countdown at 15 miles (who knows how accurate they are really, we got my buddies Jeep Grand Cherokee down to 0 miles, but were still going). I for one usually try to fill up once the light comes on, if not a little bit before then. My mom always said to have at least a 1/4 tank, but I think that's a little bit too much. That being said, I have no exact information as to why they stop at the 15 miles to empty
