MBUSA replaced short block @ 12,000 miles?
I've been following the W211 E55 for about a year now... mostly following this forum and reading older magazine publicatoins, etc. Every once in a while I come across an item that leaves me curious for more information.
I discovered a 2003 E55... at just 12,000 miles the owner took his car to the MB dealer to address a mechanical issue:
- Owner complained of abnormal knocking on cold starts
- Dealer discovered a bearing that was bad on one cylinder - 'spun piston' - 'connector rod problem? the result:
- MBUSA: 'short block replaced' under factory warranty
Has anyone heard of anything similar? I cannot imagine what the repair would cost without a warranty.
Would the value of the E55 be deminished because of the engine repair?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts...

Add in labor and THANK GOD FOR WARRANTY!!!
I would never take a car with a rebuilt engine (at the dealer) but a factory replaced short block or long block wouldn't phase me.
