Tele-aid wrench-button stuff: what is it?

Hey all,

What's with the various buttons in the center console? Like one has a wrench logo on it. I forget what the other has...

And the SOS type button up top by the interior light controls, what's that all about? Calls for roadside assistance? Do you need to pay for the service? Is it like Onstar, where you can use it to get directions or phone information, or is it simply for breakdowns? Does it automatically call MB if the car gets into a bad accident and airbags go off?

Does ANY of it work without paying a subscription?

Sorry for asking an obvious question, just didn't find any posts that answered the dumb questions I'm asking...

Thanks in advance,

Skeeter

They all connect you to the same place, they kinda route your call faster...

SOS - they will call 911 and such for you and make sure you are OK. If you get into an accident, it will automaticly connect you, as if you have hit this button, I speak from experience =/

i - Information, call if you want to know how something works. ie. what does the A/C button do, it cold either way and hot even when its on (Answer: air condenser, it consumes more power to cool the car, so if your battery was low or something, don't turn this on.) This is the one to call if you need help making left turns or something.

Wrench - (Road side assistance) they call toe truck for you, I am pretty sure they give you like a complimentary 50miles or so. I am not sure what else they will do...

Do you need a subscription for all of this to work, or is it lifetime?

You may also need to upgrade the system to the digital platform:

There was an action filed about it. Don't know the status/outcome:

You pay a yearly fee for TeleAid, about $250, and get road assistance, remote door unlock, alarm set-off notification to your cell phone, etc. Go to MBUSA.com and register to "Owners Online" for all info.
