What's the scoop on the 2003 E55
Currently, I'm in a 2001 S600. Two years ago I put a deposit down for the new designed 2003 E in the AMG version. I'm getting the first one into the dealership.
Heard lot's of info, speculation. What engine?? Is it going to be AWD? Is it manual w/ 6speed? ABC suspension? Electro brakes?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

From all the rumors i've heard and read, the E50 AMG will have the same engine as the SL55, it will have the option of the 4-matic all wheel drive system, ABC suspension, Electro brakes just like the new SL has, and well Auto Motor und Sport stated that every W211 model would have the option of a 6-speed manual.

And then we all woke up and....
I wish I had a dime for everytime in the past that someone thought an AMG vehicle was coming here in a standard. Anythings possible I guess, but dont hold your breath for that one. From their research, they dont think enough people would buy them to justify them making them. even if they made them, they probably wouldnt come USA bound. Its a great thought and I would be the second on line, after you, to get one.

SPEEDSHIFT is faster shifting auto
Check out the info about the C32 for info on SpeedShift. Its very very nice and has the feel of a manual. I think the C32 is the first one they have used it on. From what I understand, they just tweek the software to make it shift at different points.

I dont think we will see a E-Class AMG in 2003. Usually after a body style change, AMG takes 1-2 years to release the new AMG model. Therefore, I'd say we will see a 2004 E-Class AMG and that the 2003 AMG model will be skipped.

CLK55, Mini S
Here's what my Rep just emailed me
He was in training for the new E-class:
"Put the key in your pocket, approach the car, touch the door handle, the car will unlock itself. Get in the car, hold the brake pedal, touch the top part of the Trans. Shift Knob, the car will start.
Finally what we both interested in, the most is the AMG, again I do not know how they are going to do this, but let me tell you about it. There goes Porsche 911 Turbo " By By ". 469 hp at 6,100 rpm, excited? 520lb torque at much lower RPM. "
With a disclaimer that nothing is final. No details on the transmission or 4wd...yet.
But I am even more excited.

2000 BMW 540i
I'm first at my dealership too for the W211 E50 AMG
I'm curretnly driving a 2000 BMW 540i Sport which I love. It was far superior to the same year E430. The new W211 E500 AWD would be tempting but if the new E50 AMG will have AWD then I'll wait for it without going through the interim expense of an E500 AWD. I'm first on my dealers list too and can't wait for more detailed information.

Here's the scoop. The E50 AMG will be available in December 2002 in Europe. It will hopefully be available by summer 2003 in the US. It will indeed have the SL's powerplant, but with a few less horsepower (<5hp difference). It'll have all the modern technology. Now whether a 6-speed manual transmission will be available, only the AMG boys know that. To me, it makes perfect sense to have a manual transmission as an option. I know many people who would switch from BMW to MB if a manual tranny was available.

E55 AMG
Here in the UK it has been anounched that the E55 will be released Mid 2003.
It will be fitted with the engine from the SL55 roadster. It will produce 469bhp from the 5.5ltr engine to produce a 200mph autobahn eater (athough it will no-doult be restricted to the usual 155mph).

I love the **** people say a car will have before it is released. Funny to read all these years later.
