Here, the OEM amg shock is $684.25:

That's like 1/2 the price you were quoted. I don't know what these dealers think? That people just don't have computers and can shop around???

Here is an interesting question....shouldn't the airmatic shock/bag assembly be replaced in pairs on a per axle basis? I would never do a single shock replacement on a car with a bad one or a single airbag replacement on my racecar transporter, I would always do a pair across that axle. I would not treat my Benz any differently.
Just something to consider.

2004 MB E55
Normally they ARE sold in pairs, but, some dealers are willing to work with their customers to get their business.Had one replaced last year also, due to tow truck driver error(a$$hole) the stealership charged me $1200. The air strut alone was only like $600, but labor was $500 and change. I would just buy the airstrut and install yourself (if you can).

Or if you aren't lucky to have a baller garage at home with a lift in it, just go to an indy where the labor rate is like 1/2 the dealer's but they are actually better mechanics.
