UUhh wtf is this??

This morning when the car started, it was idling a bit rough at first and felt like it was gonna stall (not THAT bad but it made that sputtering sound) and the dome lights were dimming at the same time and then it chilled out. One thing is that I was pretty damn low on gas (still had to drive almost 40 miles though as my debit card expired). So I'm thinking dirty fuel filter? Anyone know wtf is up? It otherwise feels fine.

Yeah no kidding! My bank issued me a new debit card due to a security breach. For some reason, the old one worked still so I kept using it. Today it locked me out! I was without cash and away from home! I drove 3+ miles when it said ZERO range. OOPS. Scary for sure LOL

I usually fill up when I have a 1/4 tank remaining. The least amount of gas I'll ever have before filling up again is 1/8th of the tank... Plan ahead mang...

Debit cards suck anyways...you have no buyer protection if a merchant scams you. Plus, nowadays, the gas stations hold $100 every time you fill up, even if you only use $30 in gas. It takes a week for the hold to drop off. Same kind of thing happens with restaurants, they estimate an amount which is always higher than the real amount. I got sick of always having a "phantom" $1k+ that was missing from the account due to stupid holds. I could afford it, but it was just annoying, because someone (the bank) is obviously getting a free float on your money.

The final kicker for me was when I had a dispute on an eBay item, and my bank made me fill out like 2 hours' worth of paperwork, and then sided with PayPal. That was the last time I ever used a debit card. Use a credit card instead, that way it's someone else's money that gets tied up for a week or 10 days, and you get the free float on it. LOL. And if somebody rips you off, you can do a chargeback with a CC, especially amex, they are great with disputes. Debit cards have much less protection.

On a side note we have to remember the fuel pump is lubricated and cooled via the fuel running through it. So if you are low on gas the pump will be running hot and will not the adequately lubricated. Just to prolong the life of the pump fill up when you get to 1/4 of a tank.

Dude... you must have Bank of America. Hahaha... I just had that happen to me last week. I think the deadline was yesterday too.

Basically with the fuel deal... usually when you get that low and you are running on basically fumes, what ever trash you have in you tank is getting pulled into you fuel filter which might cause a rough start… as for the lights dimming Im not sure if that ties in or not.

Id, say Fill her up with premium… run her hard to get all this ***** out and see if it gets better….

Thank God too Godfather! Fuel filters on the beast require a brand spanking new fuel pump....OR 2 (we have two) Think around a 700$ fuel filter if I am correct. Maybe a bit less.

Add either an octane booster(one that raises it 30 points or so) and/or a fuel system cleaner.

The lights dimming is because the sputtering of the engine is keeping the alternator from producing sufficient voltage...hence the dim lights.

Good luck with the outcome and keep it over a 1/8 tank to be safe!

When they do the fuel pump recall, do they change the filters as well?

I've got 2 new fuel pumps, so i'm hoping this is the case.

I doubt is gas related.

Get a credit card that offers 3% (or more) cashback on gas

(Citi or Amex has those cards)
