Yeah, the C97 are super light. I weighed the stock tires and wheels compared it to the C97 w/ps2 during the install and was pleasantly surprised. I was anticipating about 5 to 7 lbs difference but found 9 when we used the digital scales. I even brought my own scale to be sure.
Yes, I do feel the improvements in the way the car handles and rides. With the lower profiles, it feels a little more planted. I can also feel that the suspension rebounds more freely equating to equal or better smoothness and better at keeping the line during mid-turn bumps and expansion joints. The reduction in unsprung weight (which was my primary goal in picking the C97) and reduction in rotational inertia is really noticable.
WRT larger tires, I had many conversations with Matt Goldstein of HRE about offsets and had a few posts here about the tires and offset combination because I wanted to have at least a 3" lip in the rears. The C97s were a bit different compared to the 547's as an example. Because of the step-up lip on the comp series, we had to be careful in offset fitting to clear the brakes. Initially, I was a bit worried about the 35 offset and thought that it might be a bit aggressive. As it turns out, the fitment is perfect. No rubbing what so ever.
As well, I had many conversations with Darwin at SonicMS and they were a little worried about rubbing. I really wanted to go 255 fronts and 285 rears...perhaps I will try it when it's time to replace the tires.
Overall, I am very happy in the way it turned out.
