i have the same problem, did the charcoal delete and kn drop ins, and i know have a check engine light. the car also feels dead on bottom end.
How do we reset the computer??????????? i think this will fix the problem because the ecu will then relearn that you have on the car.(i hope)

If you haven't mounted the air filters correctly, or have started your engine without the air box closed, you will end up with ECU codes like P2084 and P2087.

Same codes if the air filters are too dirty and needs to be cleaned/swapped with new ones!

Codes and CEL needs to be cleared by a tester or the StarDiag.

bottom end what do u mean ? higher speeds ? to me i feel like the 63 is a dead stop to forth gear car afterwards it lags , maybe due to the limitor but who knows .The car shifts alot harder and the pedal is alot more responsive since the charcoal filters removed and the k&ns are in . I actually have noticed that any gas besides sunoco 93 and the car feels ****ty and pings . ive been throwing in some octane boost which has gotten rid of the pinging .

bottom end of the engine means, for this engine about under 4000 rpm. when i removed the charcoal filter and put the KN filters in the car felt dead until 4000 rpm or over. maybe this will change when i get the check engine light off.
BTW where on long island do you live, were you at best buy last night?

I was considering modding my airbox by removing the rectangular OEM filter elements, adding aluminum tubes to each side of the airbox, and adding conical K&Ns. It should help to increase airflow while really making the blower whine. The only issue is that IAT could potentially increase as there is no way to get the K&Ns outside the engine compartment. After reading this post, I'm a bit apprehensive to try this out as the engine may likely throw up a CEL. W/O resetting the car via a Star diagnostic or a tester, is there any way to reset to avoid these problems?

Do a search, that has been done (adding conical K&Ns in engine compartment) member switched back to stock.

Now VRP offers "fangs" (adding conical K&Ns in front of radiator) you will have to ckick this link

I did the same thing on my C63. Charcoal delete and K&N resulted CEL. Cleared this morning and it's not coming back.

My advise would be not to use this combo, I am going to wait for my ODB diagnostic tool that I've just ordered and going to try just charcoal delete, so far a lot of people have done it and as far as I can tell - 0 problems.

not to dig up an old thread, but it just happened to me again! Shoot! I first did just the drop in K&N for 3 months, no problems. Took out the charcoal finally 3 weeks ago. CEL just came on this afternoon.

I'm still debating what caused it. Oddly enough I think the fuel has something to do with it.

I haven't quite worked out the logic, but would it make sense that a higher octane fuel would not allow the car to run less lean? I think that's the consensus on what the code is that's it throws.

I haven't thought it through yet. Higher octane isn't more horsepower, it just gives ability to compress more without detonation. But unfortunately here in CA, we only have 91 octane. Because it's 91, does the ECU automatically adjust for it altering timing and hence detonation and temp of engine? Which in turn potentially causes the engine to run lean?

Only reason why i say this is because for the past few weeks I usually do a mixture of 100 octane and 91 to get a blend somewhere in between 93. But i just filled up today a full tank without the 100 because it wasn't close by.

Huh... a conundrum. Any thoughts?

UPDATE on CEL and Octane: So, as mentioned earlier, my CEL came on 3 weeks after I took out the carbons, which was 3 months after I put in the K&N's. It was on for a week, all the time I was trying the ECU reset to no avail. I'm still under the impression it's not so much an ECU reset as it is a throttle reset (meaning it doesn't reset the ECU). I was always mixing my octanes to obtain 93-95 octane until the last tank when the CEL came on.

In any case, I filled up with 35% 100 Octane on the last fill up. And 20 miles into the tank, today my CEL just turned off on its own!

Has that ever happened to anyone? IMO seems like it's leaning towards the octane.

My CEL just turned on five days after I put K&N filters in my airbox versus what VRP put in there two years ago. Maybe it is filter related?

Sometimes the filters come with a little too much oil than the ECU likes, and that will cause a CEL.

I have always believed it was due to a drop in pressure. If memory serves, many were getting the same CEL when just removing the charcoal filters and they went away.
Good luck
