Jumpstarting problem with the e55
Hey everyone,
I haven't driven the beast for a few months and tried to start it and it appears the battery is dead. I tried jumpstarting it from my friend's car but after everything was connected, it didn't seem to power up the car.
Then suddenly, he saw some kind of jolt and spark from the battery and everything came on for a few moments, but before I got a chance to turn the ignition, it was dead again.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Did I blow a fuse or something?

The OEM battery last about four years. My car did the same thing just a few weeks ago. I had to charge her for a half hr just to get it to turn over. If you have the original battery........... it is time for a new one.

To me, it sounds like you never established the proper ground for the Negative connection. Although I have never attempted to jump my E55, my BMW 545 died once and it took a couple of tries to jump it and it was completely because I did not have the right ground connection.
Try finding a proper place to connect the negative connection and you may get it to turn over...good luck!

If the battery is completely drained on my BMW, I had to use two power sources to jump it. Some cars take a lot of juice. You might want to leave the connection together for 15 minutes before you try to jump it so that your battery has a little bit of power in there.

I have had experience with the same issue and based on that experience I strongly advise you to disconnect the + and - terminals from the battery, put a charger on the battery - it will take about 5 or 6 hours to fully charge it. Then reconnect the + and - cables and the car should start. Due to all the electronics on the car, it is very likely you fried something.

Our batteries are deep celled, they require a long charge to hold it. Many people rely on the alternator to charge it, but a tech told me that keeping your battery on trickle charger when the car is not in use for a extended period of time will extend the life on battery and releive the stress on the alternator.
My car sits through out the winter on a trickle charger and I have never had any issues.
