Trunk will not close

Remote trunk close feature will not work when I press the red button in the trunk. It opens find with remote & will close when the button is pushed inside the car. The red button is illuminated though, nothing happens when I press the button. No beeping or clicking.
I know it worked last week when I tried it. I haven't done anything to it since.
Wondering where I should start to look for the problem

You may want to check the manual release, and see that it's not stuck in the engaged position. If it sticks, that will disable the button.

Thanks. That was it. I wiggled the latch under the hood & then hit the button & it closed.

Appreciate the response.

Hi. I also had a similar problem with my E63 2008 w 14,000 miles. When I pressed the trunks closed button, it closed like about 1/4 way then opens again. It did this several times at once and I was not able to replicate this problem again. I was wondering if the remote is far away, because my keys were about 15ft away.

If you press the trunk lock without the key fob nearby, it will behave as you described.

If you press the close button instead, it should close but not lock.

I would like to revive this thread. I was opening my trunk to put suite case in and it wouldn't shut. So I closed it manually. Then when I got in car it makes an SOS call. It has done it 4 times now. I believe it is because the trunk latch is sticking. How do you clean and lube the latch. It's on a 2008 e350 4matic. Weird that a stuck trunk latch is causing the car to call an sos!

Did you have a spare key packed away in the luggage?

Hey all,

My trunk works fine. But sometimes it takes two pushes to close it. It will make that distinctive sound when first pushed but won't close. Clicking the second time closes it and there is no sound. I am worried something is not engaging properly and wondering what can be done now before it breaks.
