2005 Audi A6 4.2
certified used vs non-certified
I'm very much interested in getting a used 05 or newer E55 AMG. So I stopped by a local MB dealership today and they had one E55 in stock.
It was a certified used 2006 year model E55 AMG with 45,000 miles and also with a firmly fixed price of $43,000. The dealer said that nobody should buy a used E55 AMG unless it's certified. He then explained it would cost nearly $7000 to replace the transmission and kept talking about all the money I would have to spend and waste if I didn't get a certified car.
I came back home and reserached more and found a few similar cars to the one I saw. One I saw was a non-certified 2005 year model E55 AMG with similar mileage sold by a dealer out of state but it was priced around $30,000 and that's before the best offer.
So is it really worth getting a certified E55 AMG or will I be better off just getting a warranty later?

Certified '06 E55 with 45K miles shouldn't be more then $34,000..Before people start commenting, don't forget certification costs money and includes MBZ going over the car completely and replacing/repairing what ever is needed.
Not to mention the car still has a warranty for another 12 months.

In the end, paying a little extra to get a certified pre-owned is definitely worth it because it gives you the option to get Mercedes' certified pre-owned warranty. This eliminates the many hassles and risks of dealing with third party warranty companies. Second, it will save you a lot of money if expensive items need to be replaced, such as, Airmatic suspension, COMMAND navigation unit, Xenon lights, Keyless go, etc...... all of these items are extremely expensive to repair and/or replace
However, that dealer you mentioned seems to be charging way too much extra Normally, I would go for it if the certified car is only $3k to $4k extra than non-certified, but looks like that dealer is charging close to $10k+, so I would advise to shop around for another one with preferably lower mileage.
Good luck......

The CPO program is great as you get a full factory warranty (minus cosmetic and trim bits). Kind in mind that a CPO warranty can be for an extra 1, 2, or 3 years but all are for 100K total miles so know what you are getting.
As to a tranny replacement, try about $9K.
