MB warranty

Just bought my '05 a few weeks ago. It had 28K mikes and so some left on the original warranty. It was a CPO car so I've got additional warranty with this program too. Totaled together it's about two years on the car. MB is offering another two years, up to 100K for $4,000.00.

I'm going to see if they will knock off some $$, but it seems like a reasonable buy even if they don't.

Comments appreciated.

Ben

I would add the warranty if you plan on keeping the car. You might want to negotiate on the price though.

So 4 years total and 72,000 miles. I would not think twice, that sounds good even at $4K.

Make sure they cover everything the original warranty covers or at least give you a detailed list of what they cover. I bought a top-of-the-line aftermarket warranty from a third party for $3100 and even with that they try to wiggle out of covering a lot of things.

I think OP meant the additional warranty that CPO cars could only have. By default, it just adds 1 yr & 100K (so total since new would be 5yr/100k). And you could purchase another 2 yrs (so total since new would be 7yr/100k).

OP: Are you sure you still have 2 yrs left even w/o purchasing the additional 2 years? Yours is '05... that latest one would likely be around June-July 05. Unless it was a left-over that didn't get sold until mid 2006 or a demo car that were not punched until it got sold a year later, your original warranty would likely expire in 1-2 months. Add 1 yr. of default CPO warranty, that's only 1yr & 1-2 months.

Anyway.... not sure where you live... but when searching for a GL, I came across MB of Holloway in NH. On the GL page that I was interested in, they said: "Add 2-yr extended warranty for only $2595!!!". I assume it's from MB directly, not aftermarket warranty.

So 2 things you may want to try:
- Negotiate w/ your dealer to give the 2-yr extra warranty for $2595.
- Check w/ MBUSA whether you could purchase the 2-yr extra warranty from another dealer. If so, get one from MB of Holloway for $2595.

If this works, give me 50% of the saving.... LOL... j/k.

I negotiated my warranty price along with the car. There was no way I was walking off that lot without a extended warranty. Keep working on it and I'm sure you'll eventually get what you want and if you don't pay the 4k for piece of mind.

I also purchased my MB r350 from dealer and got what left of warranty and one more year of CPO. They offer me additional 1 or 2 yrs of CPO. Funny thing is first coverage cost $3858 but they said let make deal and sell for $3458 for two years. I was checking all options, wondering if CPO cars, additional CPO warranty is not a big scam to make money again from cars has been already sold (BTW do you know if price on KBB for your car will be listed as $34K dealer will buy your car for $24K and use as CPO).

Any way long story short I have decided to not buy additional warranty since I’m repairing all my cars. I deal with on board computer and electronics, code clearing and I don’t see any additional value in that. I think this is Mercedes not Daewoo. It means to perform not break every time I hit freeway!!! If will be like that I will buy Daewoo since product outcome will be the sameJ
