Tire Issues

This weekend I got my rear tires replaced because the Michelin Pilot Sports were on their way out. I got the Falken Azenis ST115.

Before Replacement: Michelin pilot Sport 285/35/18 - From stand still when I step on the throttle the tires hooked Traction Control interfered a bit not too much

After Replacement: Falken Azenis ST115 275/35/18 - From stand still when I step on the throttle the tires dont hook that well and there is a lot of interference from the Traction Control. It almost feels like the power is not being delivered in 1st and 2nd gear.

Could the above mentioned problem be because I am running a narrower tire or are the Falken Azenis ST115 is just a POS tire. I saw reviews of the Falken and they see pretty much at par with the Michelin Pilot Sports.

Thank you

Both.

285's have more surface than 275's. But aside from that, whoever told you that any Falkken is comparable to a PS2 is absolutely smoking a crackpipe.

thanks

they were the regular Pilot Sport. I saw the review on tirerack.
it is hard to imagine that a completely worn out tire will hook up better than a new tire.

Slightly off-topic, but where is your burnout video of the old tires?

I had Falkens on my Z and with about 412whp on the stock motor I was able to roast through them quite easily in 1st and 2nd gear. I changed them to BFG KDW2's and could hook a lot easier even with 550+whp.

They're a decent tire for the money but I wouldn't compare them to some of the other options like Pilot Sports or BFG KDWs.

Despite first impressions, worn tires can hook up better than new tires in dry conditions due to greater surface area from the worn treads. The main disadvantage is their wet weather performance as they lose their ability to channel water due to lack of treads.

There's a good reason why the Michelins cost so much more than Falkens or other tires. Now you know why.

Check the tire pole in the archives and you'll see the PS2's are rated the best tire by almost 80% of responders. Yes, they are expensive, but your driving a $90K car with 500 lbs of tq. and the tires are THE MOST IMPORTANT component of your suspension system.

Suck it up and get the right tires for your car.

A. The tires will get better after the new shiny coating wears off.
B. You're new tires are not as good as your old tires.
