Lost my keyless card. Need help please!
I need a card for my keyless system. The car is an 03 SL55. I was looking to buy one on ebay for about $30.
I just read this on another forum. Is this correct info?
"DO NOT BUY KEYS FROM EBAY!! It is a total waste of money. Each Mercedes can only have 8 key programmed against it (incl. Keyless Card). As the keys have a single programmable EPROM there are specialist tools required to programme a key. Once a key has been programmed the code can not be erased. If you did manage to get a blank key you would need to know the correct codes as well as be able to clone it using an IR programmer ($2000), There are after market programmers from China like the (AK-400) that actually require you to de-solder the EPROM and place it on the NEC board then it will read the data and allow you to make a clone, you need to be advanced in soldering and have some programming skills.
I have attached a youtube video for your reference:

On top of the IR Key you also have the traditional metal (emergency) key that need to be laser cut and is also available through Mercedes.
So for the sake of a few hundred, don’t bother!!!"

+1... it won't work. Tried that a while ago just for the sake of it.... and sold it back to eBay for profit. LOL.
IIRC and certainly STFF also... I think there are some online stores that sell this cheaper than dealers... you need to provide VIN and fax your title/registration to prove you are the owner, though.
