Conven battery light and other failures

I was gone for 3 weeks for training and just got back. Started the car and everything was normal. But after about a mile, the red "Conven. battery" light came on, ESP, ABS, and "Drive to dealer" msgs all came up as well. The ABS light kept cycling on and off as i came to stops and started moving.. It also threw out a engine coolant low light for a second.. it was really weird.. Does it sound like the smaller battery in the front needs to be replaced?

its a 2005 E55

yes, it sounds like either one or both of your batteries could be bad or the alternator is going out. be VERY careful as you could lose ALL braking ability by driving with a charging problem.

Yea both batteries had 12 volts.. drove around for a while and the main battery is down to 11.3V.. even when running.. looks like a charging problem.. anywhere to look first?

set your display to show the mph then turn the car off. turn the ignition back to position 1 and push the trip reset button quickly 3 times. this will pull up a voltage meter. make sure you're in a safe place and drive around to monitor your charging voltage. if it's still low i would suspect your alternator.

perfect.. that should help with troubleshooting.. is this the voltage of only the main battery?! or are both batteries on the same circuit..

from the repair shop.. part and labor was $1100 (i believe the alternator was right around $700).. the battery was fine and didnt need replacement.. thank god the dealer took care of the bill.. Zurich completely flaked on me.. "said" they no longer accept AMG vehicles.. this is over a month and a half after i signed the agreement.. I now have Easy Care and have heard nothing but good things from them.. time will tell..
