Thinking of an E55
hey guys, i am selling my clk to get into an E55. I just wanted to get some info from you guys before buying one. Do you guys think the prices will drop significantly in a few more months when the new e class hits the roads? Or it wont matter? I cant wait to buy this car but if i can wait a few months and save a grand or two then why not? Also what to look for what problems what specific areas to look for in the car? Appreciate the help

My take, just go buy it already before summer is over. Problems, what problems?

I dont know what phrase to search for about prices dropping on E55s. I have been looking for an E55 for two weeks already and there are no cars for sale in the east coast lol. Well i heard people are skeptical about purchasing the 03s since it was the first year for the kompressor engine and what not.
Thanks for your reply

Its all depends on how long u wanna keep the car.
I recomend to look for 2005 or 2006. There are menor changes from 03 and 04. Specially 2006, 3 years old car and perfect timing for me. More lease return. I got mine about 3 weeks now, I love it and will keep it for long long long time. You might find in California which is much better price and condition (dry weather) and drive back or ship it back. For me, I cant buy a car without see it in person or even test it. So I know what you mean. So just come to California test 1 or 2 then done !

2004 E55 AMG
Here goes nothing,
I bought my 04 e55 2 months ago.
it had 54k miles. i purchased a "top of the line, everything included" continental 2yr/24k mile warranty for 2 or 3 thousand.
since then i have installed a new battery, new control unit, auxiliary water pump, crank shaft position sensor.
and the car still needs another 4,000 in maintence, including air ride suspension work, flushing/replacing fluids, front and rear rotors and pads, and some other expensive little parts/service.
WHATEVER YOU DO: DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY A CONTINENTAL EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY ARE GARBAGE, and they dont cover *****. I would recommend getting the car warranty through Mercedes Benz, it will cost you abour 4-6k but it is well worth it.
BE READY to pour money into the car if it has 40k or more. ***** will break. BE ADVISED.
I love my e55 more than anything ive ever owned. Including an 06 CLS55AMG, 02 BMW M3, Two 2002 Audi S4's, and an 08 Porche 911 Turbo, but if you buy a used car with over 30k-40k miles you MIGHT be walking into a money pit.
DONT GET ME WRONG, not all e55s you buy will give you problems, but if they have over 30-40k miles, you may have a maintence nightmare down the road.
Thats just my 2 cents on it.

i bought mine sight unseen froma a MB dealer in CO. Car was immaculate and just as described.
its an AMG they will always drop like rocks. just buy it and don't look back. i would buy an 04-06 and then go out immediately and buy an extended warranty. once you get in the car you will never want to get out. the torque will keep you grinnin!!!!

I recently bought an '06 with 46K miles. The miles were higher than I would have liked to be honest. I paid $39K (it was advertised for $43K).
I bought my car from the MB dealer in North West Denver (Westminster) and the car was CPO'd. My car is a 1 owner from Texas.
I was very picky and looked for the "right car with the right options"..i.e:
1) Vented seats
2) Dynanic seats
3) Xenon headlights
4) Burled Walnut
5) Navigation
6) 6 Disc Changer
as a bonus my car came with Keyless Go, Rear electric shade and the Electric truck.
Original purchase price for the car in '06 was $92K as I received a copy of the window sticker.
My car came with 4 brand new Yokohama tires, new front rotors and pads and an oil change done at MB. My factory warranty goes to 2011 and I purchased an additional two years for piece of mind after doing research on this site and not wanting to be financially stressed if something signficant should fail.
I have been looking on and off for about 1 year and decided what the heck. I traded my really sweet '04 Infiniti M45 and did not take really bad bath on it...well maybe a quick shower.
I was going to wait maybe for another 6months or so, but acted spontaneously one evening and drove home in the car....LOL

Yasir, what's up brother! This is like a family reunion..LOL! Gald to see you pulled the plug on an W211 E55 as well. How are you liking it, tell me more, I need details. Did you sell the E36? I do not see you posting on Rennlist much, what is the latest with the 965?
Let's catch-up. Looking forward to it.

I wanted to keep the E36 too but decided to have an auto family sedan that wife can drive too.Well, what can i tell you about the E55...It's iridium silver/charcoal,keyless go,rear sunshade,Navi, lightining package and seating package ( forgot what it's called )
The car is blast to drive...Having said that,it still doesn't feel the way the 965 feels...Porsche is ..well...a Porsche
So tell me what's your next car...I'll tell you what i am thinking though....either an M Coupe ( S52/54,love those wide fenders ) or a 91-95 MR2..
Now tell me what's up with you...You still got your 930...

Sold the E36 Turbo and bought the E55..Although E55 is pretty quick but it definately lacks the rush that the E36 had ( 3175 lbs with 390 rwhp/425 rwtq )

Your E55 sounds awesome where did you find it? Sorry you had to let the E36 go, I bet that thing was simply awesome to drive (425 rwtq!!..WoW!). No more cars for me for a while, I have to finish my multi year Datsun Z Turbo project. I workd on those SW20 Turbo MR2s a lot and tore up my back always reaching over the car, great car, not so great to work on. The 930 is running great and have not done much to it really, just neeed to drive it and enjoy it.

Is there a particular option/color/year/price that you're looking for? I ask because a quick search turned up more than 15 E55's within 150 miles of NYC...I too am in the market for one, and since I work in lower Manhattan, I've been looking around as well. There's a great selection of 05's and 06's...including 3 with less than 10k miles...
