Official Poser Sighting Thread

I searched the forums and it seems that no one started an official poser sighting thread. Lets make this a sticky! The theme will be "No Motor, no Badge!"

Sighting #1 - E350 with AMG Badges and star grill.

There's an abundance of AMG posers on our small island. Here are a couple of pictures of the Limited Edition E55 w/dual exhaust, 5-spoke AMG wheel caught in the rain a couple of weeks ago. Pardon the poor picture quality.

https://mbworld.org/forums/members/s...mg-poser-2.jpghttps://mbworld.org/forums/members/s...-amg-poser.jpg

I actually saw a Honda Civic hatchback and a old W123(?) wagon with AMG badges, but they escaped before I could get my phone out.

lol who does that?

Found this right here on MBWorld. https://mbworld.org/forums/3599299-post928.html
(the fender badges aren't even in the right spot; too high and too close to the door.....) :y

I think it's because he sees it as the same as putting on a M3 badge on the back a 330i with the M sports package. 330i is not the same engine, car, as a M3 etc... AMG sports style package car doesn't come with a rear AMG badge. Or an AMG motor.

The poster was also being facetious. "Limited edition E55"

Franman 07-20-2009 03:53 PM

is it posing that MB stocks the GL550 with AMG-branded rims? I love the rims but not sure why they etched AMG onto them...oh well, they're not going anywhere.

330I(m-package) with a ///M bagde is not posing

likewise

E350(amg package) with a E55 AMG +v8 kompressor badges is posing

E350(amg package) with an amg badge is not posing

MY OPINION

No, it's the "sport" package. The only way to get the "AMG" package is to actually buy an AMG. No car has EVER come from the factory with an AMG badge that wasn't a true AMG. People might tell you that it did, but somewhere between Affalterbach and their garage it was added on. Having AMG wheels from the factory is quite different than badging the vehicle an AMG when it isn't.

And also the car in the pic has an E55 badge in addition to the AMG badge..........

Actually i have seen alot of e-class with "sport" on the fender molding and no AMG bumpers.... so sport does not mean ang bumpers....

i cant see it that clearly, but now that you metion it, the one on the right does look like it says e55... So I do condsider that posing....

Having an AMG badge without it being put on by the Affalterbach factory is posing. AMG badges are reserved for AMG cars that come from Affalterbach with the AMG engine, brakes, suspension, body kit, interior add-ons, etc.

Putting on an AMG badge along with AMG parts such as rims or body kit does not make a non-AMG car into an AMG car. An AMG car is a complete car, not just a few add-ons here and there.

Wearing an Italian suite does not make me Italian and putting on AMG parts on a non-AMG car does not make an AMG car :smash:

It should. Sounds like an additional level of posing to me. The bottom line is that no car ever came with "AMG" on the trunk lid that wasn't a true AMG. It's kind of like those idiots that put the fake fender vents on their Tahoe in the hope you'll mistake it for an Escalade. :smash: That's all we need to know.

Still doesnt explain why MB puts AMG-branded rims on my non-AMG car. I certainly didnt put those rims on...dont disagree with you, just wondering why they did that.

So they can charge an arm and a leg for AMG branded parts.

TopEnd,

I've participated in these discussions past the point of caring anymore - but I just want to let you know that a while back this issue of AMG badging non-AMG cars - and someone had gotten a response directly from AMG: The ONLY cars AMG puts their badge on are FULL AMG cars. In order to be an AMG, the car must be a complete AMG vehicle, including the entire drivetrain/etc. AMG is much more than a set of wheels and a body kit.

This was from AMG directly, so opinion or not, it's AMG's stance.

Was driving thru Calabasas Saturday & noticed this...

2 Attachment(s)
@ 1st I thought "Oh nicely modded SL?" then upon closer drive-by I noticed AMG trunk badging on far left w/nothing on right, regular Single tip exhaust /Mosquito sized Calipers/rotors:rolleyes: it was 105 Deg out w/his top-dwn:rolf: he thought he was straight PIMPIN'

I snapped these pix, then pointed @ his SL & shook my head as I rolled down my window & extended my arm out giving a big Thumbs-Down. He then rolled up his windows & dropped back behind my SL hiding, & wouldn't get near me:D

I was that someone at the AMG Private Lounge and yes, everything you said was confirmed. No car ever left Affalterbach with the badge if it wasn't the real thing. For "sport" optioned cars and the GL550, MB sources the AMG wheels for some models to set them apart from the "plain" MB's, not because they are trying to fool the customer. From a product liability and marketing standpoint you couldn't really expect them to offer some other aftermarket wheels.

Yeah, there's no issue there. If you buy a factory MB and leave it OEM and it happens to have come with AMG wheels because it was part of MB sport package marketing, then that's just the way it is. BMW does it too. The 3ers with sport package have a lot of M labels (on the wheels, etc.., but no rear M badge)

When people start to play with badges just to make their car look like something it's not and just to get attention, that's where it gets weird, imho.

Same people who buy counterfeit watches, bags, shoes, etc.. Hey, look at my Alden labeled cordovan shoes. Yeah, I know they aren't really Aldens and they aren't made of Horween cordovan leather but maybe nobody will know and it makes me look cool. :nix:

You can always upgrade your rims when you buy the car new in dealer.
Upgrade to AMG rims might cost a lot...

I'm going to the track next week and am putting on E350 badges. Is that posing? What if I keep the AMG badges on? :)
