Jerry/Wayne and LET, dyno mode question

Hey guys- what is the best tranny mode for doing dyno pulls? Should it be in C, S or M mode and what gear should the pull be in? I had mine on the dyno this weekend and it was tough going WOT without the tranny kicking down a gear in the S mode, should we have been in M instead ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated on how to get the beast dynode properly next time.

Put the car in "Dyno Mode" then select manual. Bring the car up to speed in thrid gear. let the car decel in third gear and hold the rpm's at 2000. You are ready to start the pull with no kick down issues.

when you say bring the car up to speed, what rpm and mph should I be at before I decel back down to 2000rpms?

how long should I hold it there before I go WOT?

I tend to over shoot the rpm range by abit so you just want to hold the car steady at 2000rpm's before starting the pull.

Also if you have a dyno that can load the car up at 2k would be good as well. 3rd gear is a good gear to do your runs in, also do not depress the kickdown button under gas pedal or it will kick down everytime, push the gas till it sits right on top.

Dyno runs should be done in 4th, where the gear ratio is 1:1. At least that's conventional wisdom espoused by the experts. If you use 3rd gear, the transmission gearing affects the results somewhat, yielding a less accurate reading.

How do you set a car on "dyno mode"? Did you use this when you were doing the pulls here in MD?

It seems like a fourth gear pull is a hit or miss with some dyno shops. I've been to a few now and only one has been able to do a fourth gear pull due to mph limits. I'm not sure how easy of a fix this is but most needed to do a 3rd gear pull, at least that's what they tell me...

When I had mine dynoed recently I tried 3rd and 4th. The 4th gear pulls were more consistent and accurate everytime..

Some dyno's you cant run that car to that mile an hour using 4th and the car gets heat soaked like crazy, you do get higher numbers running it in forth but for delta and running it in safe conditions 3rd is the gear. On the e55 in 3rd yor getting up to 130+ mile an hour. Here is my rule of thumb if there is 4 or 5 gears the car is ran in 3rd gear if the car has 6 gears in will be ran in 4th. I have been doing this for some years and its worked just fine for me.

Depends on the car, your SL you can just hit the traction control button and your good to go.
