new member E55 service issues
Hi I'm a new member. Just bought a 2005 E55 with 17500miles on 6-16-09.I noticed an oil leak on the oil filler side, so they replaced the valve cover gasket.I told the service rep 3 times to make sure they clean up the oil that was accumulating at the bottom of engine. So I pick up the E55 and they didn't clean anything. I start the car to take it back to the service area and the check engine light comes on.The next day they tell me it needs a new computer. My question is is this normal for a car with this low of miles. Also, I'm having them check the supercharger it seems a bit noisy compared with one other E55 I tried out.I hope the supercharger noise is just me being overly cautious. Can somebody ease my buyers remorse.

The factory warranty is up 7-3-09.I did get an extended zurich warranty the comprehensive 0 deductible.I should now later today if it was the computer or ecu,if not hopefully Wednesday.

E55 Kompressor engines are noisy, sometimes likened to the sound of a diesel. There are whines, howls, ticks, and squeaks. 9 out of 10 times a dealer or experienced MB tech will tell you it's the nature of the beast. I had two former Mercedes techs give me that line already regarding certain noises from my engine bay, and they had nothing to gain or lose by telling me that. You're lucky you're still covered by the factory warranty. I'd still have those noises checked out just in case. For a car that only has 17500 miles, you shouldn't be having to replace valve cover gaskets or the computer. Maybe you got a bad apple, but nothing a little warranty repair work won't fix.

Is it possible with low miles that the gasket or gaskets can dry up? The previous owner was a 60 something Dr. that worked at Abbot labs. The car looks like it was taken car of well. The paint, interior, wheels, and the car as a whole seemed to be babied. The rear tires look to be original. The info on the speedo says he averaged 18.8 MPG with 7800 miles since his last reset.

AFAIK, valve gasket cover issue is quite typical for E55. Relatively minor... but never heard it fries the ECU, especially when knowing the ECU is quite far from the engine.

Thanks Zoink you put me at ease with the valve cover issue. I just bought the car and really want to just enjoy all that torque.I hope the ecu issue is just a coincidence? I just wanted to say I have been reading MB World for 3yrs and it is hands down the best forum, thanks for being kind to the newbie.

Just an update.Dealer called today 7-7 said they installed new ecm and check engine light still comes on,SA says they are looking into it and I will possibly have it Wednesday.SA told me they are not sure what it could be, said something strange is going on.I am glad it was under factory warranty but they have had my car for almost 2 weeks[took it in 6-23]. Is there any type of Mercedes buy back possibly this car only has 17900 miles.

What kind of error codes does it have? You could ask your SA... and then you could post it here. There are a lot of very knowledgeable members here (some of them are indeed master tech) - unfortunately, I'm not one of them

I asked what error code it was, SA just called and said it was an implausable? idle control, she said there were not any error codes.I can't believe there were no codes. If the engine light comes on,to my knowlege there is always some type of code registered in the ecu. They will be installing a new throttle body Wednesday, that is if they get it in. I sure hope this is not warranty rape.I sure hope this will be it for service for awhile!!!!

wow sorry to hear that. I bought my E55 a couple of years ago with 19,300 miles(34k now). My air suspension failed the week I bought the car and a couple of months ago my alternator and battery control module went out. Hopefully once you get past these problems you will get to enjoy the car and say it was worth the wait.
