Michelin PS2 Tire Pressure

Thanks again for all the tire suggestions last week.

I went with new stock sized Michelin PS2, they are presently en route from Tire Rack, am getting them installed Thursday.

I wanted to ask those running these tires what pressures work best. Car is an 07 E63 245-40-18 front and 265-35-18 rear.

Thanks in advance for you input.

Look inside the door jam and/or gas cap door to find the recommended tire pressures and go with those.

RE: PS2 Tire Pressures

The reason for my initial question is that the PS2's are not technically an "MO" tire, and the label may or may not apply for optimal performance.

I know that at least several folks (those who recommended them) are running PS2, any guidance or suggestions on tire pressure? Thanks in advance.

I usually use 38 all around for everyday driving. And at the track, I just start experimenting with different values.

The edges of my Michelins wore down under recommended pressures. You might want to start at 75% of max psi and let some air out after you test it for your driving conditions. As above, you might want two sets of psi.

In California you can get a ticket for screetching tires. The technicality is that you lost control of the vehicle.

as i recall there is an MO fitment for the car. You should check with tirerack on that front. Did you get the wrong tire?

If the outside edges are wearing the tires are underflated. Recomended pressures on the door jam are too low for optimal tire life IMO and are a compromise between a comfortable ride and good handling. I usually add about 5 psi to the recomended pressure for everyday driving and longer tread wear.

You're right - that works.

Is the wear on the edge of the tire happening to only one tire or both tires simultaneously? If one tire, then it's likely normal wear since on Mercedes vehicles the power originates in the rear passenger tire and without an LSD, you exert a bit more stress even during normal everyday driving on the passenger rear tire than the driver rear tire.

Yes - there was more wear on the right hand side, but both were ready to be replaced - used car. The new ones wore pretty evenly on the edges at 28 psi. I didn't let it go on and just raised the psi on all tires.

Re: PS2's

As FYI, Tire Rack recommends going with the 245/40/18 XL 97V tire vs. the 93V MO spec on the front for slightly better handling and steering precision. The front XL tires were all of $8 more per tire, so I went with their recommendation. The rears are 265/35/18 XL 97V which is MO spec.

I had them put on yesterday. They are a huge improvement over the rock hard Conti's, I can now get pretty good traction in 1st gear, and they ride much smoother without sacrificing 1 iota of handling. Excellent tire as I have found them to be on my Caddy.

38 PSI cold all around seems to work very well, I may try to up that a pound or 2 to see if it makes a difference.
