I'd like to say I would commit to a car for that long, but I have something like vehicular ADHD so...no.

I don't think you'll ever find something so practical with so much power.

I am looking at a 2005 E55 AMG Wagon with 71,000 miles to replace my 97 E320. How has maintenance been on yours? Car is just over 4 years off the lot, so not sure what type of extended warranties are out there. Is $28,500 a fair price. Drive the car yesterday. Absolutely perfect. Came off a corporate lease. Hence the miles, but also the quality. I have 4 kids (newborn to 8 yrs), so a wagon works better than my E320 or my 74 Triumph TR6. Thanks.

The M5 comes to mind but to really use that power you really have to work it...whereas the E55 is ready to go at any rpm range...

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
I do plan on keeping my car after it's paid off, and buying something else -
Especially since I really like the cosmetic changes from E55's....

What he said! ^

I am in the same boat as the original poster, a bit older (but not necessarily wiser!) and decided long ago this car is a keeper. Creeping up on the 40K mark (and the 5 year mark) and am ready to pull the trigger on extending the warranty.

Recently have been car-shopping with the wife for a new vehicle and she opted for the M3 sedan. Loads of fun but (how shall I say this?) not as "civilized" as the Benz wagon. Did I say I was getting older?

I LOVE my wagon....

I'm keeping mine for a long while and plus some. The wife and I agree that I'm at least one more car away from my 2 door sports car. Which means another four door sedan than my ultimate toy, just don't know what it is yet...lol!

Bought mine with 6k on the clock and have almost 86k on it now. Mine stays until it's no longer reliable as a DD, whether it 150k, 200k, or even +300k.

It's been a little over a year and 20K miles, but after seeing auction prices in the teens, I'm going to bail by the end of the year. It's a great car and I've had loads of fun with it, but it is not worth THAT much of a hit....no car is in my opinion, unless you have cash to burn.

That being said, I want to spend that $1500 + a month in depreciation/cost that I would have incurred on traveling next summer. Then jump into a P-car when I am done.

I'm at 47,000 miles and I extended my warranty to 105,000 miles. And I dont think I'lll even sell it after that. The car has every single thing that I need. The only thing it's missing is handling, which is why I plan on buying a used 996TT in a few years. They can already be had for about $40,000.

I have a 3 year/ unlimited mileage warranty from Chrysler so I'm definitely keeping it for that long - my parants have already expressed an interest in buying the 55 when I'm done so that may be an easy way to keep it in the family.
Thats so funny.... I am thinking about doing the same with my Viper. Less debt and I can drive the Cedes anywhere.... I might even pick up a little beater to do distance drives... lol

Ive had it for 6 years now and hope to not really ever sell it. Plan to get a GTR in a few months and would like to keep this, its paid off and I sunk in 40K in mods and I have a warranty until Dec 2012.

Won't you take the hit by "bailing" at the end of the year rather than holding on....

Yes, but it boils down to the lesser of the two hits combined with the fact that the longer I keep it, the longer I have to wait to get the next car I want. Life is too short and there are too many awesome machines out there that I want to experience. And I don't have the disposable income to have more than one toy at a time.

It's hard to match the freight-train pull of this car, but the roads in Washington frequently leave me wanting more from my car. So, bail now, save some money, then get my 996 or 997 and start all over again.

Thats what I was thinking too...not sure how leaving is not taking the hit. Selling the car is when you take the hit. I dont think they will fall at the rate they have the past 1-2 years.

I said "THAT much of a hit."

Unless you drive it for the next 10 years, but I just think there are too many other cars to be experiencing.

And the drivers in Washington frequently leave you wanting so much more from their choice of lane.

(One of the reasons I was happy to leave W. Wash. was the stereotypical & aforementioned douche in a Subaru- who stays in the left doing 55. he/she does this because he is...
a.)Not planning on exiting anytime soon.
b.)Is exercising his 'right' to be there. He is after all going the speed limit.
c.)Can't be bothered to pull the latte from his lips long enough to head check and grap the signal lever.
