2004 E55 Opinion
Looking for an opinion here....
I am looking at a CPO'd 2004 E55 with every option that I want. Are there so many differences between that 2004 and 2005 E55s that I should not want a 2004?
I don't want to spend the money for the big price jump between the 2004 and 2005, so I want to make sure I get a reliable car.
I can get a 2004 E55 with 58k miles, or a 2005 E500 sport AMG package with 60k for a few thousand less $$s. Reliability wise, what do you guys think? I really want the engine and performance of an E55, but my wife will kill me if I get a car that is in the shop all the time.
Thanks

The 04 E55 is so worth getting killed over, but not because of shop time, rear tires my friend, many rear tires.

Could I get the clutch pack and intercooler pump replaced under warranty without symptoms of failure, or are these recalls?
Thanks

Yes, just bring it in and tell them it is bogging and the supercharger is chriping and engaging late which is probably true with any 04 E55 without these updates. This is a common problem and the dealers know all about it. Mine was like that when I first bought it. The clutch pack makes a huge difference IMO.

More info...
Vader - I have a 2004 E55 and from day 1 it chirped very loudly every time I laid into it. Was told it was either the drive train or the super chargers, but the dealer said they couldn't 'pinpoint' it so they couldn't fix it.
Can you PLEASE just elaborate on the clutch pack and IC pump issues, symptoms, benefits of replacing a bit so I can intelligently talk to my service advisor. The car is still under warranty and I'd love to get them fixed.
He's going to ask me to describe the 'bogging' and when it happens, etc.
Thanks a bunch! You made my day.

THis is a easy answer, get the 04 E55 !!! you wont regret it !
I sold my E500 04 to get E55 not because my E500 wasnt reliable, I owned the E500 for 2 years and never had problems, only oil change and break change. I got E55 because I want something special that i dont see in the street all the time. And so far, I love it !
