yes, original motor. i can't imagine my car is the exception so i would guess people are simply afraid of the unknown since there just isn't enough feedback available for high milage cars. however, before racking up the miles i have, i probably would have said the same thing. i would still suggest an extended warranty because it can nearly pay for itself with something as simple as an alternator (mine finally went out at 98k miles). with that said, the only reason i can think of to look for lower mileage is that some warranty companies won't cover a car already out of it's factor warranty. because of that, i might be inclined to look for something with just under 50k miles.

looking for e55
smart man I agree. I noticed some people have talked about a chrysler warranty do you know if that can be purchased if I buy from a private party. all the dealers here in socal are trying to tack on 10k to these bad boys. and with that 10k I could be working out the kinks to rival your times and numbers on the dyno. I am asking all of these questions because I am the type of guy that sees cars as just toys. and I treat them that way.(they are here for me to have fun with them) just so happens I have fun pushing cars to the limit. so anything that can break on the car will break after I get my hands on it.

all the major mechanicals (engine, gearbox) are pretty good and shouldn't cause too many problems. however the airmatic and sbc can go wrong, as well as many of the other electronics. since buying an 05 E55 with 100K on it, $9000 has already been spent on repairs, and the power rear shade is now broken, which i noticed right as we got home from spending $6000 after it wouldn't start. had to replace the fuel pumps ($750 each), the alternator was "over-charging" the battery so that was replaced. in addition one of the front struts had a leak so those were replaced ($1500 each). if you can afford it and find a low mileage one that has been well kept then it will provide endless hours of fun, while it's working that is. it aint a lexus after all.

Why are we talking about engine rebuilds @ 120K miles? Is that a joke?

Got a 2004 E55 with 121K on the clock. No major issues to report aside from some small noises that I need to check out, (double idler pulley, SBC, Supercharger squeek). Still shopping for a warranty. Glad to here there was a SBC recall, gonna hit up the stealership in a bit.

Bought my 05 with 35k miles for 30k straight up! Beautiful car inside and out, but I think grandma drove it for the first 30k. When someone aggressive (ME) started driving it **** started breaking and failing. Its been a nightmare mechanically, and financially. Currently I'm Lucky enough to be dealing with the gas smell in the car, and its the fuel senders and filter that are leaking under the rear seat! This fix is $1800 at my Indy.... Hoping to ask MBUSA for some Good Faith repairs to cut the cost completely or in half. Fingers crossed..... Good Luck in your search and start saving your $$$$$!

I have a 2005 E55 AMG with about 58k mileage. Recently got my crank pulley, supercharger clutch, tranny leak, IC pump replaced. Total cost with labor was about $5000. I paid only $250 with my warranty.
