Confused E55 Owner - Please help me understand....

I own a 06 E55 and raced a buddy who just bought an 07 CLS 550. He beat me pretty good off the line. My car caught wheel. Please help me understand how this is so. We shut it down around 60 mph. My ego has seriously taken a hit. I'm scratching my head. Is it the traction control? Confused......

Your car probably has a failed IC pump. Get it check out by your dealership quick and race your buddy again. GL.

How else can you tell if the IC pump is bad? The car only has 28k miles on it. I just bought from a Benz dealership CPO'ed at 26k miles.

Here's how to tell: If you get beaten by a CLS550, your IC pump is bad.

Are you saying you did get traction? If so, then bad I/C pump, though I could make a couple of pulls in my car before I'd lose power. If you were spinning then I can certainly see you getting beat to 60.

What is >>>" My car caught wheel."<<< if you had the traction control turned off and stomped the gas too fast, a Geo Metro can beat you to 60.
Was the little yellow triangle lit? Go look at the stickies for How to Drag Race.
To say the IC pump is bad is premature we have no idea what went on before the race, we need allot more information.

IC Pump = Intercooler pump. A W211 should not lose to any 550 series MB unless you had a pump failure or terrible traction. Take it up to 100+ and the E55 should still win even with traction problems.

there wont be any codes! is intermitent. Just change it, no question asked. this happened to everyone for the most part. Example how mine went: went to the track on a cold november day and my car ran consistently in the low and mid 13 sec quarter, after the last run the car right off the track wouldnt go pass 20 or 30..the supercharger had stopped for a while...changed it and finally ran consistent 12's without traction.

These pump issues were corrected already, just mention it to your Service guy @ benz, should do it under warranty. Also there is one called johnson CM30 for about $165.00, which is what i put on my car, no problems since...good luck! and i insist besides the pump check your launch

+1...the updated Bosch IC pump that MB now uses seems to be an improvement but most guys/gals here just switch to the Johnson CM30 pump (or other aftermarket upgrade pump).

I swapped out mine to the updated Bosch even though the original was still fine. Don't like to lose.

I don't blame you. My ego has taken a hit. Did you do it yourself?

I went through the same thing earlier......Didn't know why my friend's SL550 beat me by 3 car length to 80mph. Lots of members here helped out. Bottom line is, bring it to the dealer, have someone who knows 55k motor drive it, then the answer will present itself.

Good luck and have fun!

I have read 2 threads about new E55 owners not knowing about IC pumps.

Please.. search the forum.. plenty of info already and DIY jobs, pictures, diagrams.

The pump can fail complete or start failing little by little. You will notice you have power in the morning, but as you try to pass cars in the middle of the day.. power is not there and even down shifting to lower gears it does not pull hard.

My advise, please purchase a data logger to monitor your Intake air temps..
