'06 E55 - Should I conserve miles or take it on the highway?
Debating on whether to take my '06 E55 on a family road trip (~700K roundtrip) or take the tried and true Honda Pilot.
I currently have 38K miles and under MB warranty until March. I'll hit the time before the years.
I drive mainly city miles so my question is it better or and value to get this baby out on the highway for trip or am I better off keeping the miles off.
Obviously, the fun factor is to take the E55 over the Pilot but would like opinons if its beneficial to get it out on the highway even if it means adding miles.
Thanks! You guys are always helpful!

I'm thinking he meant 700 miles roundtrip. Take the beast, you will get the trip over with in half the time!........

I would take the E -- I figure your kids cant do too much damage -- a wash cloth and some leather cleaner could not fix.... Its also the safer car.
Gas mileage should be the biggest factor -- but i say put the miles on the car while you still have your warranty -- Also - you can try to purchase an extension.
Factory plans through chrystler is what I got -- like an extra 5 years and 70k.

The kids will be coming but they are 7 and 12 so they fit with plenty of leg room. The biggest question for me is the add highway miles or keep the miles off.

add the freeway miles --
If you are really concerned -- just drive the accord to work for a few weeks to balance the trip out.
I think - while on the road in your accord you will constantly think - I should have taken the E... however, if you are on the road in the E - I dont think you will be thinking about the accord.

It's a Pilot, no an Accord...the Accord vs. E would be a no brainer! haha

I recently was faced with the same decision round trip from Chicago to Atlanta, only the other car was an '08 Pathfinder. My Beast had, at the time, 29.5K. Was a little worried about putting the miles on but after talking to my 14yr old daughter, who was traveling with me, I made the decision to take the Beast. WE HAD A BLAST!!!!! Actually scored an M3 kill (my daughter set it up) going thru Louisville, KY. Got a lot of stares, questions, thumbs up and compliments at just about every stop we made along the way. Got more than a few chances to open her up and my daughter and I were just astonished every time I kicked him down. I think I inadvertently created the next Danicka Patrick on that trip. Long story short, bottom line; take the Beast. You will not regret it. My .02.

Take the car you enjoy driving the most. After all, that's why you bought it - not just to drive around the neighborhood keeping the mileage down.

Funny, I bought the E purely for the highway trips (I live in DC; Parents in Philly, Brother in CT) and given the fact that its design brief was that of an "Autobahn burner" it made my decision to get the 55 over the M5 an easy one (I use motorcycles to get my twisty groove on). My wife and I both have company cars (all gas, maintenance, insurance, as well as the cars themselves are paid for by our respective companies) so from an economic standpoint - I shouldn't even have this car. That said, F%$K economics. . .In the last four months I've put 6000 miles on this car. It's amazing, once I got the car I found more and more excuses to visit my family (drove 300 miles once just to see my nephew for 1 hour). I can honestly say I'll never be without a Autobahn burner again. Mercedes nailed the essence of this car, and it would be a shame to literally not use it for what it was intended for.

the story with the daughter sums up what I was stating -- You will not regret driving the E .... If you drive the Pilot - every 15 minutes you will question yourself.

I would go with Pilot. For long drive with kids....
I have a 06 E55 as well + Honda Odyssey (with DVD/TV ) that save me a lot of trouble with my kid.
