Loudness of exhaust with resonator deleted?

Is the E55 with resonator delete as loud as a stock SL55? I think the stock E55 exhaust set up is not vocal enough.

I have only deleted resonator and put in straight pipes (otherwise, all stock) and the difference is barely noticable, if at all. Not sure how it compares to SL55, tho.

I put in a X-pipe ... the difference is vey small. I have no idea how it compares to the SL -- It sounds a tad deeper but not loud -- I can hear the difference when i start the car... More noise when you get on it but very hard to hear from the inside of your car even with the windows down -- because the wind.
HP gain probably 1hp: meaning you will not feel it -- maybe smoother at high speeds but you will never feel it on a 500hp car. Might save a little gas too.

X pipe is definitely the way to go instead of resonator.

I believe you can X pipe the 2nd cats too..

Anybody know if we can use generic X pipes compared to buying one for $300 from our vendors?

Awesome thanks for this. I did the xpipe -- $60 magnaflow and it barely made any sound difference and I have been wanting to get an answer re sound with secondary cats gone.

The cat removal definitely makes more noise. Thats my next step!

Here is my car on dyno with just x pipe

I used a Magnaflow x-pipe as well! Definitely remove the secondary car if you want a little more sound....

E63 AMG
I deleted the secondary cats and resonator and ran straight pipes (no x) and it has some growl at idle and is pretty aggressive at WOT. Inside the cab is still quiet tho.

I wouldn't recommend deleted the primary cats. If anything you could replace them with Hi-flow cats.

If you remove Primary Cats, you will have a Check Engine Light

But you could gain 15 rwhp if you remove the primaries and tune for them! Plus the tune can remove the check engine light!

+1 I like straight pipes on the E55, the x-pipe sounds good on the E63 though.
