e55 amg underated factory figures?
ive read a few forums stating the e55 is factory underated, i wanted to confirm this, and if so what is the likely estimate output, i know each car varies.

well, as people discuss there are a few theories... I believe it is the same as the SL55... I think the dynos prove this -- Some say this does not make marketing sense to show lower HP == but i think it does because they do not want to hurt the sell of the other 55 AMGs that are being sold at the same time.

My brothers CLS55 puts down 430whp bone stock on a dyno dynamics dyno. the motor is rated at 469hp from MBZ. His motor makes in the range of 530hp based on loose math numbers. Or is car only have about a 6% driveline loss. Remember though hand build motors tend to be very different then the next.
Remember this though, Most 55k's after basic bolt on modding end up with around the same power. Example: one guys throttle body might make 40hp. The same throttle body on an other car might only make 10hp. Its strange, but I've seen it a bunch of times.

Most 55k engines dyno between 400 to 420 whp on dyno jets. There's been more than enough dynos posted on this site and others showing the same results. The difference in hp ratings is mainly a marketing gimmick.

If the car had the dreaded ECU update from the dealership, it might make closer to the 469 BHP listed....but most make around 490-500 BHP which explains the 400-420 RWHP dynos.

All the motors will be very close, no such thing as a power freak. I laugh when I see those comments about special motors. Yes there hand buily but they still use the same piston to wall clearance and ring gaps on all the motors or they wouldn't last. If you tighten the ring gaps a mm or two its not going to make much difference in power anyhow.
As stated I think 400whp on dynojet is average with a 15% drivetrain loss. Maybe a little underrated if it actually has a 20% drivetrain loss.

I disagree with you on that. The reason is that most stock E55's trap between 112-116 and few trap 117 and even fewer 118 and only one at 119. I would tend to believe that the cars that are trapping 117 and higher may tend to have a little extra juice from the factory. Just my opinion.
Naww, Your just a better driver than everyone else

thanks for the props but I am still learning how to launch my car. On my last trip out I didn't run slower than 118.2 because after 4 trips and over 20 runs I just started to figure out where and how to launch. My first time at the track I trapped 117.7 so is it me? my low mileage? or is it the car? I also did this on 19" wheels which is said to cost me hp?

i belive that if 2 STOCK e55 where to go to track, and 1 driver drive both of them they will be almost the same in time and trap speed. just b/c its hand built they still use the same parts. the motor is the same exact. unless they do something to tuning from M.B and i think that would not happen, they billion doller corps they dont make mistakes like that.

In the Mercedes platform, the cars vary quite a bit. I saw two different E55s back to back on the dyno showing 26 rwhp difference on the same dyno, same day, same conditions, etc.... Also, the tranny adaptations (and I'm sure other ECU data) vary between car to car enough to make a noticeable difference at the track.
Hammer's car, for example, could possibly hit 120 mph (or at least close to it) if he makes a run in his stock 18" rims (assuming of course, his 19s are heavier than stock). But either way, 119 is definitely "freaky"

these things are also getting quit old now and how they were maintained will start to show in dyno numbers i think. plugs, carbon build up, injecotrs, condition of cat converters will all play a difference.

You cannot compare dyno numbers unless all cars were dynoed at the same elevation, same dyno and at the same ambient temperature. Come on guys please tell me you're not this clueless. All these cars make the same power stock.
