So I tried to remove the control arm from the steering knuckle
And broke a fairly beefy ball joint puller. Its bolt was sheared off and the ball joint didnt even budge. For the next attempt I'm going to install stronger bolts into the puller and heat the knuckle.
I am DIYing the replacement of front control arms, the lower ball joint in the knuckle, and the outer tie rods; will be posting more pics and info once I finish. All those are worn and have play. If you have popping noises when turning through bumps, or have excessive inner tire wear, then you may need these replaced as well, and the parts are fairly cheap.

That looks like a grade 5 bolt. Throw a grade 8 in her and yank that thing out. Thanks for the DIY I'm sure I'll need to replace mine at some point. You coming to Cars and Coffee?

I dont know if i would use any heat, but while you have the Ball joint under load with the puller give it a good wack with a hammer like gottarex said.
