How much in operating cost?
Hello All,
I have been looking for awhile and I think I found a 04 I might jump into. Question for you guys. How much is maintenance on these cars. Of course I would get a EZ care warranty but want to know couple of examples. Im not much of hands on guy anymore and would probably take it to an indy or dealer for maintenance.
How much are the following
Brake job
Oil changes
Inspections
Any input greatly appreciated.
I have another car that I would be using as a daily driver.

Brake job - apparently, the prices have come down a bit but I paid 1200 for front pads and rotors all around (all OEM).
Oil changes - I cant remember but i think in between 125 - 150.

I just bought 2 front rotors fom the dealer for $120 each and the low dust brake pads from TireRack for $90 and I had a local mechanic installed for $250. So my brake job was under $600. Stuff has come way down, you gotta just do your homework.

I had the same question and if you have a warranty then I think you're fine. Brakes, tires (especially the rears) oil changes etc can be more expensive then a "normal" car but it's not outrageous.
Check out some sites for prices on wear items like brakes, etc to give yourself the best idea. Just do a quick search for mercedes parts and those sites will give you an idea.
The most expensive items are things like blown shocks, electrical glitches etc. If your warranty covers things like that then I'd say your ok.
Me? I got an E55 without a warranty and have paid over $5k in maintenance and repairs lately. It runs like a new car though.

If someone tells you it'll cost you 3,000 USD to change the brakes I would just say thanks and try some place else. That's just ridiculous. Probably costs $50 to put air in the tires from those guys lol. I think that's just an overcharge and he's using it as an example to increase the perceived value of the warranty (which is a nice thing to have, no doubt)
Quick search shows about $390 for rotors and maybe $300 for pads, plus some sensors. I can't imagine it taking more then a few hours in labor and the going rate is anywhere from $65 to $100 an hour. Oil change is more expensive because it takes around 9 quarts but it shouldn't be over $100.
I would buy this one in a heart beat!!! Not sure it's still for sale but if it is I would jump on it.

Don't let the cost of maintenance scare you away from owning a Mercedes. If a car is well maintained, then routine maintainance is nothing. It's just when something breaks, you need to be aware of. Get yourself a good factory warranty, and don't worry about it. Yes, brake job can cost you some money. It's easy to go fast and hard to stop if your brakes don't work. So, spend the money and have your brakes done right. For an E55 front and rear rotors aren't expensive, because their solid rotors as compared to an E3 with 2 piece composite rotors. They run on average $800 each, now that expensive. So price is relative to what your driving. You only live once, buy the car and enjoy it.

Most cars are around $400 per visit to doctor, plan on $1000+ for our little beast!

Esh,
I know 2 different type of vehicles. I just like both. Thought of x5 due to AWD (chicago winters). I know its not the greatest for winter since it has the 20s but cool truck.
$2000 OUCH!!

Makes sense, I just tend to forget that most people are picking these up as their main DD car these days.
E55 is no fun in the snow. Never been to Chicago, but for the tiny bit of snow that we get here in Portland, I wouldn't dare try. I got caught once last winter coming home after church. It was snowing and there was about 1/4-1/2" on the ground and I was fine on the flats, but the instant I started climbing to get close to the house I just parked it and walked a few hundred feet to the house.

A little but you wanna hear something ridiculous? SA told me that a complete brake job (pads, rotors, front, rear) on a McLaren at the dealer is $45,000. That's right... 45k! And they last under 10k miles.... I mean if you can afford the car, you probably can afford the brakes..... but 45k!?!?
