2003 E55 AMG
Damn Dealer over wrote my ECU.

Had a custom map done by a company called Chiplogic, here in South Africa. Was reputed to be making an extra 30kw, this with the delimiter removed. Side note - is 30kw about right for a decent remap?

Did a run on Saturday and found to my horror, the car limiting at 255km/h on the clock.
Now I have to get the ECU reflashed once again. Car is out of warranty, so no reason for the dealers messing with my tuning.
How do I stop this from happening again?

Got to kick that Porsche 996 911 Turbo butt next time I meet it on the freeway to work

well if you go the dealer and they have to plug the computer in, you are gonna get flashed...and that's pretty much every time if i'm not mistaken

Are you sure about that? I don't think the ecu is reflashed each time the car is connected to star das. Easy way to tell is connect it to star and look at the ecu reflash table and it will tell you when the ecu was reflashed.

I have been told by several dealers that they do not re-flash customers ECU`s without asking the customer first.. I would think that would be illegal, unless you signed a waver for them to do that..

His wife crazy
South African procedures are probably different. That is one thing I miss from the Subaru/Infiniti worlds. No Cobb AP to flash the ECU to stock for dealer visits. Too bad there is nothing like this (that I know of) for the MB http://www.cobbtuning.com

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
As a fellow saffa ... Howzit!

I guess the only way to be sure is make friends with the workshop surpervisor or the tech working on your car. Request him to work on your car next time and be sure he just does the necesary and leaves the ECU alone.

Might have been a recall that needed the ECU to be flashed.

Anyhow happy & safe driving... kick butt!

EDIT : remap for 30kw / 50hp is about right. Try Kleemann they are represented in South Africa. I can get the contact dets if you need.

Otherwise if you want custom tuning - Try Rob Green Motorsports up in Jo'burg. They did some wild stuff on beemers a long while back. Not sure what they are up to now.
