LT header installation question (pipes hit steering rod)

Hi guys,

Just recently while I was visiting US for holiday, I bought a set of Eurocharged Longtube header for my E55 back in Indonesia. So basically, I bought LHD-configured longtube header for RHD car.

Long story short I took my car to get the header installed, but then on the right (driver) side, one or two of the longer pipes hit the steering rod when the tech tried to install it. So my tech couldn't get the header installed unless he got the longer pipes cut and customized to be able to slip below the steering rod.

Is LT header equal length? Does it really affect (lower HP/torque significantly) if I cut and redirect the pipes to be able to get enough clearance out of the steering rod?

Please chime in guys!

thanks

Some insight on my header design experience and E55's. The steering shaft on the E55, and CLS55 both not only spin when you turn the wheel they also rotate in an obit or pivot. So there are two turns going on when you turn the steering wheel. What might look fine and clear the steering shaft may not clear once the steering wheel is moved. So basically the shaft can get closer to the header runners once you turn the wheel. Also you have to take into consideration header expansion and motor movement under throttle.

to answer the actual question ...don't worry too much about slightly changing the length of the header tubes. the tubes are not equal length to begin with and that priority is not as important on a s/c car as it is on a n/a one.

LoL thanks chiromikey, that's the answer i'm expecting...

so, i guess i can go ahead with the install.. just need to find a competent muffler shop here that is able to customize the pipes.
