2005 E55
Battery or Alternator Diagnosis

The weather in NY over the past two weeks has been increasing colder each day. The last two or three times I went to start my 2005 E55 I would get the message "Convenience Functions temporarily unavailable". The car would start and run fine and eventually I would get the message "convenience functions now available". It is a bit of a pain since I have my seat and steering set to adjust upon startup. The books says it is simply a low battery but nothing more.

Anyone have an similar experiences? Do I have a dying battery or is it something to do with the alternator? If it is the battery it would seem simple to change since it is in the trunk. Anyone change the battery before? Where do you get a replacement?

Thanks in advance for your help.

This issue came up twice in the last month and a half or so. Take it to MB and have them do a check on both batteries to see if any have bad cells. If they don't it's the voltage regulator or the alternator going bad. As far as replacing the batteries, it depends on which one if not both are bad. As far as batteries go it just depends if you want to be cheap or not but I wouldn't get anything short of an AGM battery.
