Silver 02 C32 & White 05 CLK500
I got a similar sound comming from the belt of my c32. I think that it is the belt itself. What I did was silly, I spat on the inside of the belt while the car was running and the noise stopped for a while. This tells me that my pullies are fine and that the belt needs to be changed. I am about to order a new belt and I replaced the idler pulley and the sc clutch 10k ago. Good luck solving your problem and hope its nothing bad.

a new serp belt should take care of the issue. my car had the exact same noise and a belt swap solved the issue.
