Belt Noise

Hey guys I have a weird belt noise coming from the car. i was wondering if anyone had a video of the s/c chirping to see if that is what it is. I sounds like an old chevy with a belt squeak, but I am unsure of it. Thanks~!

I just had another S/C idler pulley go out on my car , as mine was squeeking every morning on start up.. 400.00 bucks from dealer but ASP is making me a new one..

If you hear a chirp when your S/C kicks in, then it may be the S/C clutch engaging or just need a new belt.. Most our belts slip some and get glazed pretty quick.. I change mine every 8K or so..

Definitely sounds like idler pulley.

Worth it though swapping out SC belts just to be safe. Belt is only 35-50$ and takes literally 60 secs with 17mm 1/2" socket.

Idler pulley is classic Benz parts rape. Just makes you sick. I would save that for last.

Keep us posted.

OH, squeal could also be bearings in Power Steering pump. They have been known now and then to go South.

Hey jackpro, thanks for the advice, I have changed all pulleys, not including the S/C, for obivous reasons, I have spare belts so I might try to change the belts. The car is in storage so the next time I go check on her I will take a vid of the noise... all pullies and belts are about 5k old.

+1 same noise........

squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak

I hate it, only when cold goes away after awhile.

Just so I don't hear it I start my car and floor it out of the garage and up the street, usually doing about 90 by the end of my driveway

Their are two types noises that affiliate with the supercharger.

One is the common "Chrip" which happens when the Supercharger engages. You will notice once you give the accelerator a harder then normal press.

the other, which I have, and is more annoying. The belt squeals after you left off the gas right after a real hard pull (usually when high in the RPM's) Not exactly sure what causes this. Maybe the Supercharger turning off immediately when you let off the gas??

I get the loud belt squeal when I do a burnout at the track and then let off the throttle quickly. It's belt slip from the tensioner playing catchup with the belt when the load is removed. I've heard the same noise on several other supercharged cars. Mustang guys have a huge problem with broken tensioners on supercharged applications, and I've witnessed one snap in half at the track when the driver let off at the end of the burnout.

If you want to diagnose belts, start the car, observe the squeaking noise, and then briefly spray the belts with belt dressing/brake cleaner/carb cleaner/whatever. If the noise instantly goes away, time for new belts. May as well replace both. I paid about $40 shipped to my door for both.

When my SL was chirping, I would notice it when I felt the SC engage. It got very obvious after a few hundred miles of driving it that way. It was a very short chirp and sounded the same every time.

The service guy at WWM told me it was no big deal so I drove the car for about six months with the chirp. It never got any worse, but then my SC clutch bearing took a major dump so I replaced the whole clutch. You might want to have a look at the SC clutch bearing just to make sure it is in good shape.

I used to live in Fishers too. It is still nice but, getting overgrown. Colts are tough. I bet you had a good time when the Colts beat the Broncos.

Chad,

I doubt it is the SC clutch then. More like the idler pulley. Whatever the case, you better have that monster ready to lay down some sweet ETs at ORP in April. The little SL is going to be tough to keep up with after my Jerry tune. Oh, and I asked Santa to bring me a pair of 555Rs for Christmas.

You need to contact Warren (wizos6), he sent me a video text today and it is the same friggin sound. He is trying to figure out what it is himself. Obviously sounds like the belts and pully.
