help with brakes and wheels

Hey guys,

I got an 09 E550 amg sport package. I'm looking for wheels and upgraded brake setup. It is possible that I upgrade my brakes to amg brakes or other aftermarket. I plan on going with 19's with the brake upgrade.

thanks

Yes, you can certainly upgrade your brakes with the AMG brake package, they will fit.
www.formymercedes.com has a great wheel package in 19-20 inches. And are decently price roughly $1300 for wheels. What AMG brake package are you considering, the E55, or E63? Either way both are great but a Bit pricey, unless you can find a package deal off of Ebay or in the classifieds of this forum.

If you're plannin on upgrading the E55 or E63 brakes, I would even recommend you just upgrade to the Brembo GT kit.

I believe what he is saying is that he has an E550 and wants to upgrade to AMG brakes.....

Yes, that is correct. I figure the Brembo GT kit will fall in the same ball park figure as the E55 or E63 brake package and it'll perform better too. Just givin my humble 2 cents...

I did the E55 brakes on my E500. I got my stuff from Jessie @ Anaheim Mercedes. He's in wholesale parts. With his discount, pricing was way cheaper than a Brembo BBK upgrade.

Here are some rims, if you're interested. They're specc'ed for BBK

I found a set of amg rotors on ebay for 900 and 700 f/r. They are beat up, but nothing a powdercoat wouldn't fix.

I hear allot of buzz about Brembo BBK being better, keep in mind that Brembo is the maker of Mercedes-AMG brake calipers. So I don't think is better in my opinion, since there the same manufacturer. If you don't believe me, look at the back of your AMG calipers, and you will see Brembo. They make our 6 - 8 piston calipers. I know that the BBK rotors are lighter. I have two-piece on my E63, but there still not light. Just my two cents.

Someone has to make the calipers, it just happened to be Brembo. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are just as good as Brembo's top of the line braking kit though. A couple members here have done the swap from AMG brakes to a Brembo BBK and have noted better braking performance, as well as weight savings benefits from not only the rotors, but the calipers as well.

It is my opinion that the calipers are the same, no matter what anyone else says. The calipers clamp down on the rotors with equal force, that doesn't always equate to better braking. The difference is in the rotors, and brake compound. Yes, that Brembo BBK rotors are lighter, and maybe they use a different compound mix for their brake material. And yes, the Brembo BBK are lighter, then AMG. But if you were to used Brembo rotors and their pads, they would be equal in my opinion. AMG two-piece compound rotors aren't light, but are lighter then the solid rotors that you find on the E55. AMG looked hard in the braking arena to find the best brake kit for your vehicle. They put on the best calipers and rotor that are availible, now their ceramic composites are out their now, but you wouldn't want them. They squeal like a pig, are very expensive, and require different calipers. The best improvement that you can do, to improve your braking performance would be the change your pads, to maybe EBC, Akebono, Porterfields. You want the pad that is rotor friendly with great bite, and low dust. Just my two cents

You guys with E63, does the front rotors come in 2 piece from factory or one piece? I have 2 up front but one piece in the rear

All E63 come from the factory with two piece composite rotors up front, with one piece rear rotors. The front rotors aren't cheap to replace, $930 from Mercedes, the rear are cheap. The benefit of having a two piece is that, all the heat is retained in the rotor and not transmitted into the hat, this could cause warping. And alternative to the high price at Mercedes is www.parts.com they run about $620 for front two -piece rotors.

And that is $930 per front rotor, Mercedes doesn't sell rotors in pairs. The rears are alot cheaper about $150 per rotor.
