Why did you buy the E55 ?
Why did you buy yours? I purchased mine strictly because of it's engine. I didn't care much about the looks, but the 469 HP and insaneous 516 lbs of torque stock is very impressive. I can't say there are many cars out there that can match that.
For me, it's all because of the motor. Without the motor, I would probably have gone BMW, to the M5 and drive with 2 extra cylinders!

2006 E55 AMG
I remembered seeing the commercial years ago where the Monster is going tearing up the house and the wife puts it back inside the engine compartment... I said to myself.. "I have to have one." Then I drove one and fell in love.

I bought it because:
1. The motor. "469" hp and 516 ft-lbs of torque. TORQUE FTW!~!
2. It's an E-class. I think one of the best lookin sedans out there.
3. A 4 door sedan that can whoop exotics brings a smile to my face.

I remember in 2003 when a family friend showed up with a W211 E55 (he also has a W210) I knew I just had to have one. It's the whole package for me, I can make the power with just about anything, but I can't make a 10 second car in a sedan that I can hand the keys over to a gf/wifey and not freak out with just any car. The dichotomy the E55 offers is almost impossible to find anywhere else. Every M5/M6 (hell M car) I've driven I've known its a performance machine, drive the E55 in comfort tranny and suspension and its a luxury cruiser, click down to sport duece and you've awaken a beast. Giggity.

Purchased our first MB (2009 C300) for my wife. Fell in love with the quality of the MB brand. Have always loved the W211 looks... Saw my car (06 E%%) advertised online and decided to take it for a test drive just for fun. I left with the car that day! To me, it is the perfect combination of looks/luxury/sport. Sure, I could have purchased a Z06 or something along those line (I hate Chevy interiors, always have, always will) but you know it is fast. 75% of the people out there have NO idea what an AMG is... I love pulling up to "supped up" Civics/Corollas/etc and letting them take off (get a car length or two ahead of me) and then blowing by 'em. It's especially fun when their girlfriends are with them and they start laughing at them! Then you get the guy in the Z28 Camaro/Mustang GT/New Camaro/what have you who is showing off and sees the V8 by the front wheels and thinks he is gonna take you. He starts revving his engine and you just sit there quietly. He tries to beat you off the line but you are waiting for it and you nail it and leave him in the dust. You don't even look back... I don't think many other cars can give you this!!! I test drove a 2010 GT-R the other day but won't give it a second look... Yes, it is fast. Yes, it has some cool features that my E55 doesn't (love how you can customize the gauge's that show up on the console). BUT, it doesn't have the Mr. Hyde/Dr. Jekyll personality the E55 has. As someone stated... put it in comfort mode and you have a great cruiser. Put it is sport mode and light up the road! Can't say enough about this car and I will probably keep it for quite a long time no matter what else I may purchase in the future!!!

The torque / acceleration / drivetrain.
The rest (4 doors/5 seats, luxury, safety etc etc) is a bonus.

I was going between a XJR, SRT8, M5, e55 or E63. Test drove them all and the 55 won because:
1)Torque, Torque, Torque - really is no substitute for everyday real world driving
2) if I wanted more power, I could get it fairly easily without having to really worry about reliability issues
3) Ever since I was a kid I wanted an AMG after reading the article about "the Hammer"
4)LOVE sleepers.
5)Cost less than a new Toyota Camry WTF!!!!!!!!!! (funny thing was, I was willing to pay more for the 63/M5 but since I didn't have to. . .)

E55, Supercharged Z4 (sold)
I had a supercharged Z4 before this and loved the torque and looks of it (especially with my wheels) but didn't like the rough ride and noise during my daily drive. I also wanted more power as 360hp just wasn't cutting it anymore.
I had considered an M5 but it was hard to get over the looks but I suppose it would grow on you. My Z4 did afterall but the E55 had that almighty torque and could be had for a good $10-$20k less. No brainer at that point. I couldn't stand putting my foot in it at 2-3000 rpms and have nothing much happen (M5) Torque is king in the real world! Saw a Tectite Gray '04 with 48k miles for $27k and decided I had to have it!
I mean really. With a eurocharged stage 3 costing $5k and giving you approx 650 hp is there any other car that is so practical, so easy to live with on a daily basis yet so fast/powerful?

I needed:
1- Powerful car that can go 0 - 100 in less than 5 sec.
2- 4 doors car, so when my family visit me i will have no issues + my wife's mini cooper
3- German luxury car with very nice look and trusted quality
4- Last that really made me loved it more, youtube reviews in terms of comfort, stable, strong and powerful car.

Because in 2004 when I got mine, who the F had 516 lb/ft of TQ on tap at low RPMS in a sedan? I was still coming off the excitement that 391 lb/ft gave me in my W210 E55 only a few years earlier.
5 1/2 years later the E55 is still an amazing vehicle with excellent options on modding.

Oh and I do prefer the E63 front clip, but since it's a wee bit easier to swap a bumper than an engine....

For me, I needed a 7 passenger car.
Wanted one that could rip off consistent 12 second quarter miles.
OK, not really. Well, maybe.
For us wagon owners, there is nothing else.

at the time back in 2003-2004 "fastest production sedan in the world" that pretty much did it for me and i love the look of the E - classic sleeper
had done Audi S4 and BMW 535is and love my 202 and my 211 E500, so it was the next logical choice and my friends still ask me to hammer it when I end up driving.

2006 E55 Wagon (RIP), 2019 E63S Wagon (Sold) 2023 AMG GT634S
And it appears they are taking away that option, too. Glad I still enjoy the Uber Wagon just as much as I the day I bought it. I can't see myself in anything else really - and I wanted the E55 for the torque.

Plus, after reading E55 forum... I became crazy about the car.
