I changed my battery per my dealers instructions but it still didn't work. I used a 2025 battery. Got two at walmart for like 4 bucks. I have an '04 E55 though. Not sure what the E63 uses

Thanks guys! I thought they were like BMW keys, but my car notified me last night that the batteries need to be replaced.

Last night the warning light came on to change the keyless Go battery and I notice a check engine light came on the same time. I don't know if this is related.

Anyone know if a low key battery will trip a CEL?

Should be the same. I don't think the keys are designed differently.

Aww...don't worry, maybe it's nothing bad.

Our CLS63 went in for service a couple weeks ago. The CEL came on and it had a cracked intake manifold.

I've had my MBZ laser keys die before. Its a nightmare. Try the battery deal first BEFORE you take it in to the dealer. The cost of a new key is around $275. My last key would unlock and lock the car but would not lock into the steering column. The MBZ dealer said there could be a problem with the relay in the steering column and not the key. Before I started shelling out money for diagnostics I just bought a new key. Worked like butter.

With keyless go, the battery run out fast... for me, I changed in June and last week shows need to change key battery again. I guess, the more i use Keyless go, the more battry will consume. It should not have anything to do with Check Engine light. Good luck !

My primary Keyless Go fob triggers a low battery message from the car every 7-8 weeks. I am starting to think it depends on where I have the fob when I hit the start button. One time I was sitting on the fob and another time it was deep inside the front pocket of my winter coat. I've not had to change it yet since initially getting the message 5 months ago. It has never set off a Check Engine light but if I recall correctly it did store the message once and I had to clear it manually.
