2004 E55 w/ stock 18's - What tires would you suggest
All,
I've got the stock/standard on my 2004 E55 AMG with 27K miles on them and have begun looking for replacements that will fit the stock 18" AMG wheels.
I'd like to go as wide as possible on the stock rim so was considering 285/35/18 for all 4, but wasn't sure if they'd fit?
Love to hear your collective advice/feedback.
Thanks.
Alex

Others will chime in...but no one goes the same size on all four. 285 is most likely not possible on stock front rims.
Most people go about 10 over at most on stock rims.
255 front, and 275 rear...although some have gone as high as 295 rear I believe.

I stayed with the front stock size at 245 and then bumped it up to the 275's in the rear after researching the many threads on this subject. In short, those are the best sizes to go with without jeopardizing safety on stock wheels.

The only issue with going extremely wide in the rear, are the tires will rub on the fenders. I have 245-35/19 front and 275-30/19 rears, I thought that i might have a issue in the rears. But they fit perfect, even with my lowered suspension, they look sweet. I realize that you have stock 18" wheels, but I would say not wider then 275 in the rears. The problem with putting a 285 on the front wheels, is that 1) they will rub, in the inner fender well, because of the extreme wide tires, on a narrower rim 8.5". 2) it will look stupid in my opinion. 3) Mercedes come with a staggered setup from the factory, your handling will change. 4) The wear on the front tires will be ridiculous, the shoulders will definitely wear out extremely fast. I just wouldn't do it myself. Stick with the traditional staggered setup.
