I'm not sure about the auction prices but the E63's are falling into the low 40's now. Wagon is obviously going to be a bit more.
M3, why are you looking at the E55 when the E63 is out and floating around?

The Best There Is E60 ///M5
E63 is out of my budget and personally I think the E55's engine is bullet proof. I also daily drive my cars, so I think the gas rape wouldn't so bad on the E55 vs the E63.

The gas mileage for the E63 is 14-20, about the same as the E55.

The E63's engine is a detuned race engine. I'm sure it will handle the daily driving job as good or better than the 55 engine. An 05-06 E55 is about 10k cheaper, and you have a valid point if you are on a budget.

I know a Renntech ECU tune will get you 2mpg better in the Kompressor 55 engines.

I get 21-22 MPG on mile on a 100 mile daily commute (80% freeway). I'd take an E55 over an E63 because of 1) price, 2) ease of mod-a-bility for the dollar, 3) proven design, 4) cars look very similar.
So for $2,000 in mods an E55 will easily beat an E63 and that's just getting started!

04 - 06 e55 Wagon - looking for
A little OT but the new 2010 wagon body is great. I would almost prefer a 2010 e550 wagon with AMG sport package (no AMG engine) over an 08 - 09 e63 wagon. Of course if I wanted to mod, the e55 K would be the hands down choice.

04 - 06 e55 Wagon - looking for
Last year during the gas crunch, 05 wagons were going between $37K - 42K with one outlier at $46k. Fast forward to 2010 and the asking prices have stayed the same. There are a handful of wagons for sale now from the private and dealer side. Prices are all over the place given the economy and lack of samples (comps if you are talking Real Estate). I can say that they were diving off a cliff but have since stabilized
I'm thinking an '07 e63 could be had for $55K - $60K. My rule of thumb is +3K for the next newer year up to '06 (e55). Then there is a 8K - 10K premium bump going to the e63 then the +3K adjustment to between 07 - 09. That's my 0.02 cents and I'm sticking to it - generally speaking
