Car decisions...........
I currently have a 04' E55 for a DD, it has a tune/pulley and runs great. I have been going back and forth on trading it for something new, new or used, something in the $40-$65k range.
Should I keep this car and just mod the hell out of it or look at something else, it has to be 4 doors, mod friendly and relatively quick.
I have looked at the following:

I'd keep it, but if you tire of cars and need a switch, I think CTS-V would be the best contender.

Performance 4 doors...... not many cars can match E55 Stage2....even CTS-V wont be really faster... C63 will be downgrading IMO.
For argument's sake, my take on a few cars (although let me be very clear, these are AWESOME):
C63/CTS-V/M3/RS4 - I am 6'5" and do not want a smaller sedan.
S600/S65 - Outstanding cars I have a good amount of seat time in but I feel the E55 is more sporty (in looks/handling/feel) and unfortunately these cars portray a little bit of an older "persona" that I am not comfortable with (my old man has an S-Class...)
M5/E63 - Sorry, but I love my low end torque and do NOT like ringing out engines to get power out of them.
The other consideration I've had is the Flying Spur but that car is simply too much of a boat and a bit too flashy for me in everyday use.
Given my criteria, the number 1 consideration to my E55 would be a G55, however with a GL already in the driveway, it's not an ideal replacement either.
When you really get down to it, the choices are not as easy as one may think.

The RS6 is also a nightmare to work on.
Finally, they are now much older than the run-of-the-mill W211 E55, on average.

By no means is it bad or uncomfortable, but if I sit straight up (with the seat as low as possible) my head will rub the roof. Oddly enough, my W220 S-Class had WORSE head room.
My DD Chevy Malibu has what appears to be a lower roof line (due to a higher waist-line and smaller windows), and has more headroom than my E.
Aside from that the W211 (even the E55 I'm sure) is an ultimate car for long hauls, really coddles you, and makes for a serene environment.

My height is more in my legs than torso so I don't have a problem with the roof height in my W211 and to be quite honest I fit in my R230 perfectly as well (with the seat all the way back, of course).
I'm not sure what you refer to as long hauls but it's a very nice car to drive for 3-5 hours (that's the most I've driven it consecutively). No problems at all. The 65 can be a little rougher, mostly due to it's much more aggressive ABC programming and the lowered ride height (less suspension travel).

Iv got a spur, and its honestly a very hard decision which one to take the in the morning - they are both about the same on fuel (acutally I think the 55 is drinks a bit more, but it may be different drivng styles) and both very stable yet fast cars. The bentley sometimes seems/feels a bit TOO much when just using for everyday driving, but sometime I love it!!
I know that you can also pick a older spur up for good price (05 or 06) so it makes the descision even harder, but one thing I can say for the sure is that Bentley are for sure pure 100% quality throughout every inch of the car!!
