New ASP idler pulley and install pic.

This is a continuation of the " ASP idler pulley saved me money".. Since ASP hads to set up the machine for my one pulley, they went ahead and ran 30 only.. I turned my prototype one back in today and recieved the final version/pulley..

PS, the office manager said they are going quick and do not plan to run anymore in the near future or even at all..

Final model, has final industrial design look and finish..Large oval air holes, lighter and hard annodized clear coating..

This pulley change took me less than 10 minutes to perform and I am a so called pencil pusher by trade..lol Well kind of.. Quick run down of how to change..
1) Remove S/C belt
2) Remove accessory belt
3) Remove plastic dust cover on idler pulley and remove the long bolt that holds pulley assembly on..
4) Pull accessory pulley off of idler pulley and slide new ASP pulley onto accessory pulley assemby.

Reverse steps and then admire the shiney new mod you just installed.

Pic of junky stock idler and ASP idler.. There have been in the range of 6-9 changes by MB to this idler. This design is the most common and does not have the steel race for the bearing to press in.. I had an 03 and this 04 and both could not be repaired or able to hold a new bearing change.. Just the nature of this most common early design..

Nice piece, personally I think they are crazy not to do a run of at least 1K.

Yes, I picked mine up yesterday and they were shipping out idlers this week.. 125.00..

I gave them my extra tensioner pulley to have made next.. I want a matching pulley set ,good high RPM bearing and my F-N tesnioner is starting to wobble too.. Plus, I saw the post by Dyno about his failing..

Best way is to take the S/C belt off the idler pulley and see if the pulley wiggles back and forth.. You can try and wiggle it with belt on as well but will have to appl;y more force to move the pulley.. A very small amount of wiggle is ok.. Pulley squeeking noise at start up is another sign..

Are they going to make a run of the tensioner pulleys as well?

Mine idler pulley was changed out the last year or so (can't remember exactly). How long are these things good for?

They said they were going to run a few extras, as the Set up time on a CNC machine takes most the time.. I mentioned that not only myslef but a few other people need or will need them..

Mine idler pulley was changed out the last year or so (can't remember exactly). How long are these things good for?
Hope MB improved your latest idler change and it last the life of your car.. If you have a large crank pulley, it may still fail sooner from the extra RPM though..

With larger crank pulley`s on most our cars now, we are turning the idler pulley`s a lot faster.. The idler turns about 2.5 times faster than the crank pulley..The stock bearing is rated at 12,000 rpm and the ASP pulley uses a ZZ rated bearing for 17,000 rpm.. If you still want more, just ask ASP to put ceramic bearings in for an extra charge..

I made this simple change, as I believe that this set up will last the life of my car now.. Just need to change the tensioner pulley out to match next..

Exotic,

Is there a specific person that we need to talk to over at ASP

Thanks for putting in the effort to get this done. I can guarantee 30 people will appreciate your efforts

Only thing I would have changed is the color. I would have preferred if it was black!

Am I the only one thinking this?

I guess I could paint it.

Thanks again

Just pull the black plastic pulley off the grey old pulley. Then slide new idler onto back onto the same part..

When you all call ASP (candice) make sure you give her the part number for the idler pulley which is 810011 (just to avoid any confusion)

There is a pulley that has six grooves, is 90mm and even has the lips. But the bearring is about 1/32 too narrow. That means the two pulleys are smashed together and are not seperated anymore. I tried to find a super flat 5/8" washer to seperate them. It turns out all washer are too wide. This would cause the S/C belt to be misaligned and soon shred.

So, for me the ASP pulley did not work out. I still need to buy the OEM part.

Unless, one of you guys knows where to get the correct rear idle pulley?????

If not, does anyone want a deal on a brand new APS Idle Pulley?

Sounds like the ASP pulley worked but that you have more pulley issues than just the supercharger idler pulley.. Finding the accessory belt idler pulley`s should be easy.. I am sure there are mewmber that still have their old one`s in good shape..

You can double check this one but there are a ton of these plastic idlers around.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Merce...29193010r21291

Got mine a week or so ago, finally got around to installing last night, super easy to do. I did not completely remove the serpentine belt just left it loose, switched out the pulley and reinstalled. This forum is very helpful!!!! Thanks for the find Exotic!!

My results were good as I had this annoying belt squeek and this seems to have solved it. However I did notice that I will need to change the serpentine belt soon.......
