New E55 Owner Here!
- Manvel
I am a newbie myself and loving the beast, so I would be happy to offer advice (other than use the search button...lol).
While I completely understand the "enjoy the car before you mod" recommendation, and had every intention of listening to that advice....I couldn't help myself and am racking up mods at an alarming rate

As far as performance mods go, start with a new intercooler pump and larger heat exchanger. The factory units are the beasts Achilles heel. The won't add power specifically, but will allow you to run lower IAT's and avoid heat soak. Plus they are a nice thing to have when tuning the car and adding power.
Pulley is always a good second mod, with basically 170 and 180mm options out there.
It is highly recommended that you get a tune of the ECU while you do the pulley upgrade. there are canned tunes out there that work well, but a custom dyno tune will ALWAYS yield better results.
Many suggest starting with headers as the provide a solid 30-40-whp gain. For me I would like to stop at cooling mods, pulley and dyno tune. This should provide about a 60whp gain. I know myself to well and am sure, eventually, I will be Stage 5....lol.
As far as where to get it all, the vendors here are always a good place to start. I have heard nothing but good things about Eurocharged/Let and plan on adding there pulley and a custom tune when they come my way next month. Besides, there prices cannot be beat...their stage 3 kit will yeild 500hp/600ftlb to the wheels and only set you back $5K. Just a few years ago it would have been over twice that from other vendors.
Good luck and enjoy!

So I really haven't driven the E55 to it's fullest b/c I haven't gotten insurance for it so I haven't experienced it's handling yet. I still have my Type-S but it's stock right now considering my lease return is next month. The Acura does handle well but in it's stock form I don't think it's safe to take sharp turns at high speeds. My Type-S was fully modded and I think if you have a Type-S the first few mods to do that are inexpensive and improve handling are getting a Progress rear sway bar and also a front strut bar (more so the rsb). Also, the stock tires aren't that great but also aren't so bad. So maybe upgrading the tires if you have the funds might help. I had some 17" enkei rpf1's wrapped up with Dunlop direzza sport z1 star specs (best sticky summer tires).
So here's what happened to me one time. I was going 75-80 mph on the freeway and the freeway I was on, had a sharp turn ahead and I completely forgot how fast I was going until it was too late. BUT to my surprise, my car took that turn with great control. My tail didn't slip and my tires were gripped on the ground. Going that fast with that car I was sure I would have spun out of control because of the sharp angle of the turn. I never did that again btw.
So from my experience, the Type-S has great potential for better handling. It all depends on what you get and what you want to improve. I hope I've answered your question. If you have any other questions regarding the Type-S don't hesitate to pm me about it. I basically know this car in and out.
