W211 surplus?

Just stopped by my dealership today and found a huge volume of new vehicles most of which were W211s-approximately 50- plus many S and C series. I saw only 1 S55, 1 CL55, and 1 S600. I saw every color available except #185 Jade black despite being told there was an E320 in jade black somewhere on the lot. I keep wavering on my color choice but will keep it the way it is for now. I think black opal is ugly and was surprised how different black obsidian looked on a new E compared to on a new ML. The ML looked like it had much more metal flake and the E looked extremely similar to regular black-the difference was almost imperceivable.

The sales manager said sales are going great, but I think otherwise. If he complained, maybe more people would try to pry more profit away. Either way, I think they have a lot of selling to do because right now people have a hard time finding enough space to pass through the dealer's lot.

No early sighting of an E55 down here in So FL. The first one is due to arrive early June, that's why I opted for a Sept 04 model.

Sales manager is full of it! MBNA is coming off the worst February in nearly a decade. Local dealers in the SF Bay Area have new inventory stashed everywhere. I saw several AMG cars collecting dust because the showroom was overflowing. They are starting a shell game where they put new cars in their loaner fleet for a few months and then sell them as used. I have also been approached by a dealership offering to move my name up on the E55 list if I bought an E500 from stock now and trade it in on the E55 when it arrives.

I don't expect to pay more than sticker for my E55 this fall.

Did he give out some numbers you have to add to trade in the 500 to 55?

He did not give me any hard numbers but he was willing to deal a little on the E500 Maybe about $1K off and sticker for the E55. If you look at a short term lease on a $60K car, the payemnts ($1200/mo) are huge to cover the initial depreciation. It could cost me $4-6K to move my name up the list. My guess is that they need to keep their general numbers up to make their allocation of desireable cars.

I really like the W211... hope the new E55 will perform flawlessly. What do you guys think, is the new E55 will perform better or the difference is hardly noticeable? Is it gonna be around 3 or 4 years before MB do some facelift on the car?

Thanks

Rumors say that it will get a facelift in 2005.
