what would you pay for a 2003 e55 with 104K miles

What would you think is a good price to pay for a 2003 e55 with 104K miles. The car is a one owner car with the owner being 70 years old in very good shape. I like deals like the next person and think I could get this for about 15K but my gut tells me to stay away from 100K+ Mercedes due to repairs. Anyone in here have a 100k+ mileage e55?

Any thoughts?

Get a PPI done at the local dealership and if all checks out, go for it.

I would be leary of buying an E55 with so many miles, even though it a one owner car.
The maintenance on this car, could be expensive. And most likely tranny, rear diff, power steering, engine coolant, engine oil, needs to be flushed. The airmatic struts could be bad, but if you get through these issues, it could be a great car. How is the interior? Does the seats need to be refinished, are any interior bits coming apart?

PPI should address all these issues and more, the owner being older is intincing.

'19 G63 Ed 1,'18 M5, '16 G63,'12 458 , '11 E63, Brabus SL55-K8, '10 S63, '94 E500 "Wolf", '91 560SEC
Get the PPI done for piece of mind, check the service records. If properly maintained go for it. Search the forums '03 had the antifreeze leaking into the tranny problem due to a faulty radiator. Other than that if you can change your oil, brakes, and other simple maintenance items you will be fine. If not then any car out of warranty regardless of miles will be expensive to upkeep.

People seem to get scared of miles like something major is going to explode or something terrible is going to happen after 100k miles these cars if maintained will easily see 200K+ miles. Questions about higher mileage cars come up all the time, they are made to be driven. The main thing is being able to do simple repairs yourself to keep the cost of ownership down. Good luck.

SOLD 04 E55 Now 93 w124 3.2 sold W210 E55 sold waiting on W211 E63 p030
I was in the same boat. I was looking at a high mileage E55, was one owner that serviced the car religiously. I had all the service records and it was never modded or drag raced. Struts were done, suspension, mounts, SBC pump all the major components serviced or changed. I figured if I get a lower mileage car at some point these issues would surface and I would spend major bucks to repair. Btw the car was serviced all its life by Mercedes. So I pulled the trigger. You should not have any worries if the car was serviced. I just dont like 03 because of the no nav option. Just do your research I was going back and forth with the owner for about a month and he sent me all documents I requested along with a buddy of mines that work for Mercedes who verified.

Thanks guys but the car turned out to be a scam with more research. The guy just sent pictures and it does look good but still has the white ink on the windows with the year and model of the car like they have at auction and when asked about the owner history in that he was selling for his dad that his dad would be unable to be present when showing the car as I mentioned if I was serious I would need him to be present with a drivers license to sign over the title as he said it was already signed and he was out of the area on vacation. Finally one of the numbers in the add I googled and it came back to an auto body shop. This was bought at auction and probably a bit damaged then repaired. I never got the VIN as if I ran it I assume it would of been a mess.

Too many people lie about stuff. I knew there was a strong chance that something was up.

I jumped the gun and assumed the worst. Here is the carfax as his story does checkout:

Hmm,
I wonder if I should still look at it given his asking price is $18K.

There are many scam ... once saw a low miles Oddsesy for $13,000 and the car worth like $23K, too good to be true. Then he send me complete picture of the car with VIN number ! 1 day later when i am so interested to purchase, he told me the car is in other state and Pay-pal first then ship out the car for me. I found this in Craighlist LA ! I knew right away it was scam. Just be careful !

I will his asking price is not such that it is a steal and me mentioned he is selling cause his dad bought a 2010 e550 4matic and was insulted at the trade in price and thought they could do much better selling privately. I am guessing it was around $12K or so for trade in.

Will check it out and see I can't see offering anywhere near 18K though.

My 12K is a bit low ball but still think it is a bit higher than the dealer for trade in. Will take a look over the weekend. Thanks for your input. It does look very clean but pictures and in person are two different things.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Lack of navigation should not be a deterrent on these cars as it is so horrible in execution, you just lose patience and stop using it. Aftermarket nav is the way to go.

Agree with others, if it was 200k, that would be one thing, but 104? I would be more interested in the condition of the car

Have $13k in mind, but offer $12.5. When he comes back with a counter at $13k he'll think he got you for a little more, but it will be the price you initially wanted.

As long as history is clean and car has been serviced properly 104k miles is not that big a deal.

If you don't like it or becomes a problem, you can always part it out here

As always with such transactions, caveat emptor

104000 miles is not that bad if you remove anticipated length of ownership from the equation.
