E55 Chrome Exhaust Tips
I was wondering if we can buy new OEM chrome tips for our stock exhaust? Mine are a little corroded and black and would like to get a fresh set on. Any info?
Thanks!
Thanks!

You can't buy tips alone. You can clean up your tips in though. I used fine steel wool then a good metal polish. This has worked fine for me and others. One member suggested a magic eraser and that would seem to work well too. To get the crud off you will need something abrasive.

Mine where black, now they are shiny.
Every weekend I wash the car.
I always hit my tips up with a Wire brush for the bottom of the tips and one of those dish washing green brillo pads to clean the entire tip. Steel wool can work, but can leave scratches in the chrome.
When I first bought the car, looked as if they were never cleaned and they were straight black.
After, even the bottom part of the tips are perfectly shiny chrome now.
You have to keep up with it weekly though since these cars run a little rich and they soot up quick. You do it once and maintain it weekly, they will never get black again.

I wish you could, but the tips are not available on their own. I looked into this before. You can buy "C32" style tips but the oval is much smaller than the E55's. A friend of mine had to actually buy the entire muffler just to chop the tips off. You can certainly look around for used exhaust and I've actually found used tips before online. Just need to be resourceful.

The tips aren't chrome, they are polished stainless steel most likely. An ordinary wire brush will scratch anything far deeper and more uneven than fine steel wool. Obviously most abrasives will "scratch" the tip to some degree. The trick in polishin metal is to make the marks small and even and then smaller still. Try steel wool or a magic eraser and then metal polish. It takes work but the results are great.

Thanks for all the advice I'll try it. What is a Magic Eraser? Are you talking about the Mr. Clean product?

and an old toothbrush. Use a clean rag to wipe off. Simple and effective, your tips will look like they just rolled off the line.
This same topic has come up before in the forums.
