Where is the ambient temperature sensor?

I did a search and found responses saying it's suppoded to be next to the drivers side fog light. My temp. display started acting up a couple of days ago and I want to check the sensor, but even after removing the drivers side mesh screen I can't find it. Is it supposed to clip in the screen itself? I see a place where it looks like it would go. Maybe it came out and is sitting on the undertray somewhere?

I recently had the front bumper cover replaced and I'm guessing it wasn't properly mounted and fell out. Rather than deal with taking the car back and complaining just to have a 5 minute procedure done, I'll just do it myself. If that's where it's supposed to be I'll remove the undertray next time I have it on the lift and see if it fell down in there somewhere. Am I looking in the right place? Anybody have a picture?

Yep, its under there somewhere. I had the same issue when I changed my front bumper. Temp would fluctuate from 105* down to 85* then up to 90*. Turns out the sensor just came loose out of its clip. My SA told me that it's behind the bumper near the fog light.

The sensor is unreliable because it is affected by the engine heat, going down the interstate the temp in the car said 64 degrees and the radio says 57 degrees. I'll have to learn how to subtract.

The ambient temp sensor in all 4 of my MBs are very accurate. +/- 3* or so. Sound like you may have a problem with yours.

Thanks guys, I'll take off the undertray and hunt around for it this week. Probably just needs to be snapped back into place.

How is a sensor mounted just behind the bumper with ambient air flowing over it affected by engine heat? Mine is very accurate, and only began acting up a couple of days ago.

You mean the radio broadcast? Temps vary widely in any city. I've found the sensor to be VERY reliable.

The sensor is mounted near the drivers foglight, in a rubber grommet and is very easy to mount.
