cut steering wheel to add support for thumb shifters?
So here is my dilemma. I am buying a wood steering wheel for my e55, and the wheel I am buying does not have the holes for thumb shifters because it is off a non amg car. Would you guys recommend cutting into the back of this wheel to fit the shifters or how should I go about doing this? Thanks.

Why not? My car is all birds eye might as well get a thick AMG birds eye wheel with black perforated leather.

It does not work well. A lot of work is required to make it look decent. The leather on the AMG wheels is actually built up on the sides to encapsulate the buttons, rather then them be cut. if you cut a non AMG wheel, you will hit the metal backing very fast, and that is VERY hard to cut into and make the final product show worthy.... This is from my direct experience.

maybe I will just remove the thumb shifters. I have not used them yet since I bought the car. Can I put the thumb shifters a little bit further back towards the core of the wheel to avoid the leather?

Are you serious dude? I thought everyone contorts their wrist 180 degrees so they can shift with their thumbs? Lol, I meant to say finger shifters or whatever they are called.

most places do not sell them with the shifter holes in the back. I only know of dtcms and their wheels are ridiculously priced. I am getting that wheel for $300 brand new so I guess I will just take out the shifters.
